I got this game off the PS store for free and wasn't really expecting much. Man, was I more wrong. This game really delivered an amazingly fun experience for me. I am typically not a fan of racing games, but this kart racer really blew my mind.
With a plethora of characters to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice. Once the race starts, it is usually pure enjoyment all the way. Each racer has a unique vehicle that handles rather differently from each other, and finding the right racer/car is part of fun! Unlike most racing games, this casual racer has you traversing the water, land and air all in a SINGLE race. That makes for some really fast-paced action that is really addictive once you get the hang of it. Similar to Mario Kart, you get to pick up items and boosts which can either help yourself or hinder enemies, bringing a huge element of unpredictability!
There are also a bevy of modes to select from, all with their own merits. My personal favourite will have to be the 'elimination' mode, where the aim of the race is to destroy all your enemies with items that you pick up. Hence, rushing all the way to be in first place is actually a very bad idea, something which I only realised after a while. This is just a great example of how unpredictable, and exciting the game can be! It can also be seen that a lot of effort has been put into track designs, which many varied environments and ever-changing gameplay mechanics.. especially as you progress in a race.
To sum it all up, the year now is 2014.. and this game should be really cheap to get now. And since that's the case, GO GET IT! It is great fun and definitely a worthwhile experience for gamers who enjoy a great casual kart racer!
