Sonic 3D never seems to work, but this is the best version.

Sonic The Hedgehog has changed a lot since its old 2d side scrolling days of collecting rings, jumping on robots and fighting Dr. Robotnik (or Dr. Eggman)

This was a bold step for Sonic Team to make. The last few 3D Sonic games such as Sonic 3D and Sonic R didnt really impress and removed most of the fast action associated with Sonic the Hedgehog.

In this game Sonic is, yet again, at war with Dr. Eggman and trying to stop him from gaining all 7 Chaos Emeralds. It starts with Sonic having to fight a liquid type creature that causes havoc in Station Square, the city where the game is based. The liquid type creature is known as Chaos and with all 7 chaos emeralds will cause serious problems for the city of Station Square.

The game has already moved into a new direction with the introduction of a city and people, as if Sonic was something you see everyday in a city. For many this was something that wasnt liked, I however found it great.

Visiting the Hotel, Casino and Railway Station was something new and fun and added to bit of innovation into the Sonic genre. I also liked the fact that I had control over not just Sonic but Tails & Knuckles and there was also parts for Big the Cat, Amy & E-102-y

Not every character was fun to work with. Sonic was invariably the best with Tails not far behind and E-102-y was a fun character to control with a rather new concept (Being able to control the bad guys) implemented.

I did find Knuckles missions to be slightly boring and Amy's missions to be pretty short and sweet. Big the Cat was at times the most annoying character with fishing not being the most fun aspect of Sonic.

Overall though, despite some annoyances and some rather hard mini games (Such as the Chao races) the game had a good storyline to it and Chaos was a great bad guy to face off against.

A must for Dreamcast owners.
