Defiantly Not Challenging, But Sure As Hell Beautiful

User Rating: 9 | Solatorobo: Red the Hunter DS

Oh man, the furry land of Solatorobo. But before you leave on me, this is gonna be worth your time to read! This game is TRUELY a gem, and it's defiantly a game to check out.

First on this review is our presentation. This is the most BEAUTIFUL game I've every played on the DS! Each place in Solatorobo has very beautiful scenery with beautiful character designs that just makes you want to cuddle each one! The animation runs pretty smooth with every flick of the D-Pad, and the art that's shown during conversations between certain characters are just beautiful! And don't get me started on the cutscenes! Oh, the CUTSCENES! They are gorgeously smooth with perfect sound effects in proper places with beautiful angles and emotionally tearing bits. Heck, the music in certain cutscenes almost made my cry! And even more to satisfy our lovely viewers, when you start the game, you are greeted by a beautiful

The storyline for this one is a bit cliche but it's still a decent plot. The story goes that Red, a young 17-year-old caninu hunter, is highjacking the Hindenburg cargo ship to retrieve an important file. While trying to get this file, he finds a young mysterious passed out felineko boy stuck while, even more strange, a huge statue-like creature pierces the cloud sea! He flees with a medallion as a souvenir, along with the boy and the file, and little did Red know that meeting that felineko was the most important part of his whole life. That plot might seem very cliche, but trust me, even after this game, there's ANOTHER whole sub-story, so just stay with me.

Game-play is the pure gem of this game. And it's illegal to call this game an RPG because it's MUCH more than that. You see, besides using a gun or punches to defeat his enemies, he uses his machine to pick up his foes and smash them on the ground. And that's just the attack strategy; you can customize your robot, fish for mutant hermit crabs with islands on their back, and many several different side quests to complete! This game is not in any way limited to its main story, as it's VERY diverse. The only large downside is that it goes really quick and it's a very fast game. When I was younger, I was stunned that there were two stories in one cartridge, but after replaying it, it was really fast and kind of disappointing.

Oh, don't even THINK that you're done after playing the game. You have SO much side quests to complete that can even be replayable, there's area battles, sky ship flights, collecting music points, snatching photos from little caninus, and don't get me started on the Cabin. You can compose soundtrack from the game in the 'Audio' section using your music points, buy cutscenes that you adore, take all the pieces of photos into several different photos to look with beautiful art styles, and unlock so many pieces of information in the Library. Like for example, if you talk with a lot of villagers between the 10 different islands you can go to, you can unlock a chapter in 'Races'. You can unlock SO much in the Cabin which is why I LOVE this game because it feels so rewarding to see all my hard work pay off in vital information.

Last but not least, the soundtrack. Oh, the soundtrack. It isn't as good as Undertale, but it sure as hell is catchy. There are over 80 different pieces with their own original tone to it that makes you just want to bounce! My personal favorites are 'Cute Policeman', 'Pride in Blood', 'Roll'n Roll'n', and 'Verdant Vizsla'. Please, even if you can't get the game, listen to the soundtrack.
