Socom for the psp is actually pretty good. This game is supposed to be in link with the 3rd Socom game for ps2, storywise, and for unlocking extras.

You and your teammate "lonestar" are fighting in these small missions. The menues are good. Graphic wise, this game is pretty good. The main character models (you and lonestar) are well made. The enemy and hostage models vary from pretty good, to just acceptable.

The maps, and enviroment are pretty good, but there are some textures in the maps that are really bland and dull, but it doesent really affect the gameplay that much. The thing that does affect the gameplay though is that the maps do not give much support for people who want to be more stealthy in the missions. The enviroments are more open, and a little harder to hide and snipe and stuff like that.

The controls will vary from person to person. Some will think its too difficult, or its too easy, or its just fine. You use the analog..nub..thing, to move around, and you can hold the left shoulder button to strafe. You use the right shoulder analog to lock on to an enemy. You can also free look too, and thats useful for sniping purposes. So actually the controls are pretty simple, but playing on the ps2, then playing on the psp, might make playing on the psp a little awkward at first, but its just something you gotta get adjusted to.

The sound in the game, well, theres music thats fits this game very well. The voices are pretty good. The gunfire and explosions are not the greatest, but they do get the job done. The only problem with the sound that annoys me is the enemies screaming. Sometimes they scream because they are being shot at, thats reasonable. They sometimes scream to get backup from other teamates, i guess thats ok, but just calling for backup seems better than just screaming. Then they just scream for no reason, for example, you look around a corner, about to enter a town, and you are plain out of site, and no one knows you are there, then you hear an enemy scream, and it just happens for no reason. That doesnt happen too much. But enough to sometimes annoy you. Now to the gameplay.

The solo missions are okay. The story is pretty good, and the missions are pretty good, but there is one thing that kinda makes the solo missions not as good as it could have been. The enemy a.i. is about as bright as a deer deciding to fling itself into oncoming traffic. You can "run" up behind an enemy, and knife him, and he would not have even noticed that anything suspicous could be running toward him behind his back ready to kill him.You can even be in plain view of an enemy sometimes and they wouldnt notice, and its not like that a person with gun pointed at you isnt enough to notice that theres something wrong going on here. Even when your not that far away from them, and you shoot at them, their reactions sometimes doesnt really make sense at all. If i was shot, i would run like hell, even though i was in agonizing pain, but still, i would get out of there and get some cover. The enemy sometimes does this, and sometimes they get back up, and walk around like nothings happening. When they do know that sometihng is going on though, sometimes they can be a challenge, so the a.i is not totally dead, but its pretty close. So if you can, put your missions of elite mode, which is possible on the instant missions, but im not sure if it is on the story missions though. This just really puts down the solo experiece, unless you like smaking down dumbass terrorists, well this game is just for you. But its not really that much of a challenge though. So put your missions on the hardest mode, and you might have yourself a challenge.

Along with the solo is the extras you can unlock. You can unlock these extras from connecting your psp to your ps2. Socom psp, connects with Socom 3. You can unlock characters, and guns, and stuff like that for multiplayer purposes. a pretty neat feature. The multiplayer though is the main attraction, and its just fun. If you get a connection, and you have socom with you, play it. You can play very well made multiplayer maps, and you can play to up to 16 players. Its similar to counterstrike, in terms of what you do in multiplayer. Seals verses terrorists. You can slos use a mic to actually talk to other players. The multiplayer is just addicting, and something that you have to play when you buy this game. So overall , this game has some errors, mostly to do with the singleplayer missions, but the multiplayer is what makes the game worthwhile, if you can get over the control scheme.

Whew, I'm glad thats over. I think if you are into playing you PSP online and you like the SOCOM series then just pick this one up tomorrow, because there is nothing wrong with killing your friends on your so called lunch break.
