Although I was not expecting a perfect 10 game, I did not forsee Socom4 being the pile of crap that it is.

User Rating: 3 | SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs PS3
Having been a fan of Socom from the beginning, I can say that I never expected this game to be of such poor quality. With PSN down, I cannot comment about the multiplayer. But if single player is any indication of what to expect, this Socom will be forgotten quickly by the community that made the series what it is.

In the single player, you play as a Nathan Drake inspired "cool guy", with teammates who look as if they were pulled out of the Gears of War and Call of Duty reject pile. The gameplay itself also has the feel of a generic third-person version of those games as well.

The game is a broken mess of inconsistencies, and just plain poor programming. The hit detection is terrible, as there were many times that I would shoot an enemy in the head multiple times and it would not register. Also for a series that was built around stealth, it is virtually non-existant in Socom4. The enemies always know exactly where you are after they detect you. And even if your stealth meter shows that you are fully hidden, they magically see you a lot of times when they are not even looking in your direction.

I also would love to know who had the great idea of putting the Army Of Two guys in this game, giving them shotguns and having them charge you constantly. No matter what you shoot them with, or even knifing them, they do not die easy and can shoot you from across the map with there shotguns Call of Duty 1887 style.

All together, I feel that by me giving this game a score of 3 I am actually being very generous. Perhaps when PSN comes back up, the multiplayer may be a saving grace. But from what I see so far of this game, I am not expecting anything more than a generic Call of Duty wanna be.

R.I.P. Socom, you are missed.
