Despite some fun scenes, it's buggy, flawed and frustrating enough to shoot yourself in the head.

I recently picked up this game from my "to play" list and decided I should give it a go. Might have been the biggest mistake of the year for me. And so disaster unfolds ...

Every guy who played a shooter wanted to be the sniper at least once. Nothing more satisfying for me than to shoot an enemy from 1 kilometer away without being noticed. You feel like the Grim Reaper: everybody dies yet nobody notices you. Well, this game makes you more like the Grim Bulletbag. Everybody notices you, everybody shoots you.

When you think of a sniper game, you think of a stealthy game. Stealth is not an option in this world due to the terrible AI. You can be a ghost on a clifftop, hidden in the bushes with you ghillie suit, looking down your sights and be almost invisible but God forbid if you try and fire a bullet from your silenced sniper rifle because as soon as the first bad guy is down, suddenly the whole army knows EXACTLY where that shot came from and where you are from now on. Trees, rocks, bushes ... they are all transparent to the enemies who are now shooting you, but that doesn't mean you can see through them.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior is a game based on a magical land where guns are powered by fairy dust and unicorn love. As soon as you are spotted (and it will be soon, trust me), all the bad guys start shooting you from miles away with their AK-47s or other assault rifle and actually land hits on you from that distance. The fairy dust explodes and sends their bullets at incredible speeds and the unicorn love guides it directly in your ribcage. But all weapons lose their magical aim once you get your dirty hands on them so I guess you're the bad guy and they are defending the Mushroom Kingdom or something. It's fascinating to see how you have to aim and take a perfect shot with the sniper rifle (and you'll miss a lot) when you can get a machine gun and spray magical bullets.

On the other side, your allies are the most incompetent idiots the world has to offer. In a shootout they'll stand and look at a rock or run around spraying bullets that never hit anything (fairy dust theory). Their best skill is hiding in plain sight as the enemy AI never seems to shoot at anything else but you, despite the fact that your ally is standing next to them, smoking a cigarette.

But enough horsing around. Bottom line - stealth mechanics are flawed, enemy AI is incredibly smart yet incredibly stupid at the same time, friendly AI is a misconception, because all AI is against you even if they're not shooting you, gun physics are a mess.

My advice: steer clear of this game as much as you'd like the awesome slow-motion headshots. Just go back to CoD or BF:BC2 and shoot people the fun way.
