Interesting plot with a surprising twist.

User Rating: 8.5 | Silent Hill: Shattered Memories WII
When I popped this into the Wii that usually collects dust in the corner, I wasn't expecting this to be the best game ever - and it wasn't. I haven't really played any of the Silent Hill games, so this was a step into a new series for me with no expectations. Putting that aside, this game captured a special place in my heart.

In the beginning, you answer a questionnaire from your therapist, and throughout the game, you're telling this man the whole story as you play out. The decisions you make when in the therapist's office affecting how your story will play out, and the ending you will acquire overall.

The gameplay is you simply navigating Harry Manson throughout areas with just your flashlight, occasionally the world turning to ice/crystal and you being chased by monsters. Nothing but your flashlight shining your way through very dark places, and you not being able to throw said flashlight at the enemies to slow them down a bit.

The motion controls I never had a problem with. Move with the nunchuck, flashlight shine is controlled with the Wii-mote. Has the best controls in any Wii game I've played.

I found myself getting lost beyond belief in wider stages, but it didn't take me many tries to figure out how to navigate.

The chase scenes are not frightening at ALL, and I'm EASILY scared. Put "The Mummy Returns" on for 20 minutes and I'll have nightmares for a month. You always expect it when they're coming, because the world will turn to ice/crystal. When you're searching for clues or an exit in the dark however(which is the majority of the game), it can get a bit spooky.

The thing that keeps this game from getting a 6.5 and jumps it to an 8.5 for me, is the ending. The ending had my Wii-mote hitting the floor and my jaw literally agape because I was so surprised. It's an amazing twist I didn't expect, and I doubt most people who've played this game did.

If you have a free weekend and you own a Wii, I recommend you pick this one up from Blockbuster or rent it over Gamefly. If you can find it used on E-Bay or Amazon for less than 15 dollars, you should purchase it. There isn't really replay value for this one for me, but if you want to see every ending possible, then there are some hours ahead of you. This one I played a couple hours a day for a week, but I'd say there's at least 10-20 hours depending on how quickly you figure things out. Definitely play this one!
