An unusual and unique game that in the end left me a bit underwhelmed.

This is a strange game. The story is beyond weird and gameplay is unique. The only other SH game I played was Origins for the PSP and that was a pretty good game. The one glaring problem in this game is the lack of combat. I knew about this before buying the game thinking it would be interesting but it was annoying to be defenseless and just run away from your enemies. I never got used to that. Combat in Origins wasn't great but it was fun tracking how many bullets you have left and when to use the portable TV on a creature. The nightmare sequences are tense but kinda annoying at times.

Another big part of the game is exploring Silent Hill. Graphics are wonderful on this game and the flashlight controls are highly responsive and fun to use. The cell phone feature is also pretty cool. There are some puzzles to solve. Some are easy and others quite difficult. You can also collect mementos, or items, scattered around Silent Hill. Problem is they seem to serve no benefit to the game.

The story starts off simple. Dad crashes and starts looking for his missing daughter, but then gets all weird as the game goes by. Characters are creepy and weird(which is ok) but sometimes seem unnecessary. Lisa and Michelle for example. What was their purpose? The therapy sessions with Dr.K are used to profile you the player but I wish they served a different purpose. Just a strange game playing experience.

This game isn't horrible. Graphics are great and exploring silent hill is interesting at times. The running away sequences are different but I just wish you could eventually fight back. Don't expect a big ending either. No boss fight or anything like that. Just a weird, head-scratching ending. It's a decent game with more than a few flaws. Very short game too-6 hours maybe less. In the end its a decent game worth checking out if you don't mind not fighting and if the price tag is under 20 bucks.
