Silent hill 3 had some huge shoes to fill form the 1st and 2nd and it surely fills the expectations

User Rating: 9.5 | Silent Hill 3 PS2
Silent Hill has been famous for it´s dark storys, can scary places. Places that scared the crap out of you. You where walking in the town, you get into dark rooms, and sundelly hear sounds, scary sounds. And monsters attacking you. In Silent Hill 1 on PS one, from 1999, you where Harry Mason, who looked after his daughter Cheryl, in the town of Silent Hill. That was the first time we came to know the madness. We learned about why the monsters where in Silent Hill (don´t think i will write everything down! it spoils you enjoyment of the game). Then in 2001 came Silent Hill 2 on PS2, PC, & X-Box. This time we where James Sunderland, who has taken to the town of Silent Hill, to find his dead wife, he recivered a letter from. Expectations for Silent Hill 2 was high, and it did good, but dissapointed in some ways. Silent Hill 2 had nothing to do with Silent Hill 1. Silent Hill 1 took place in Old Silent Hill, and Silent Hill 2 takes place in New Silent Hill, which isen´t as far from each other. A whole new bunch of characters where included. So you don´t get explained the lose ends of Silent Hill 1 here. But it raised the expactations of Graphics. It was so good, and it made the game more scary. Now Silent Hill 3 has comed. It has some big expections to live up to, and nearly everything is good, which makes this the best Silent Hill yet.... The Story: You play as Heather, a 17 year old young woman, who just spended the whole day shopping. She is about to go home when she meets the detective Douglas, who has been hired to find Heather. He also knows something about her birth, but she dosen´t care, so she runs into the ladies room. You now have a choice. Escape through the window, or go back to Douglas. You can only one thing through, escape through the window is it then, leaving poor Douglas to wait for moments. But when she enters the mall again through the back door. Somethings wired. All doors are locked, most of them with broken locks (not again!), and there´s hardly any light. When you come to the middle of the mall. You see fireshutters are down, blocking your way. But one is half opend, and it leads to a cloth store. It´s here you meet your first monster. When it´s killed, the game really begins. You have just used all your ammo to kill the monster so finding ammo is the first to do. Now let´s get to the gameplay. You find out that combat has changed a bit. You start with a gun and a knife, as your first weapons, the rest if up for you to find. When you are ready to shoot, you hold down the R2 button (Resident Evil huh?). You are an easy target when you aim, so you could take a lot of damage here. Die quick huh? Then hurray for the block system! Whrile you aim, press Square and you can block attacks, which is a great help. But the enemies are at attacking so you have to be quick. What many pepole complained about in SH2 was that enemies where too easy to kill. They could be long away from you, and a 1-2 gun shots, and a kick was enorugh to kill the monsters. That has fortunely changed. The first enemies you meet, are big MF´s. They attack with their big arms, which do good damage. Dogs have been added, which pretty much acts like the zombie dogs in Resident Evil. They are quick, and deadly. Some small ones have been added. Then are dark purple, and have a little head, 2 legs, and one eye. They attack with the head, and are deadly in groups. Bigger versions of these things are there too. Flying monsters are added. They fly around, and make a really loud noise, which is annyoing. They have small sharp claws, that are deadly. There are cawlers, which goes for the leg. They can be a pain in the butt. Most of their attacks, makes you fall to the ground, and whrile you on the ground, they attack you. They finally theres the nurses. Before you think Zombie, your right but they are not as dumb as in Resident Evil. Nurses also have weapons. Some have a iron pipe, others have a handgun. So combat is sightly better to avoid. Weapons are pleanty. You find Handgun, Shotgun, 3 Pipes, Mace, Katana Sword, Submachine Gun, Sercet weapons include, Flamethrower with unlimited ammo, Sub Machine Gun with unlimited ammo, and a Light Saber. So nonw with harder combat, health items are something you will need. Count on it!. The graphics may look the same, but a new engine have been made, so that Heathers Flashlight in her pocket can light with a better effect. Evinorments are a lot more scaryier to look at, so the graphics can harm up with the likes of Gran Turismo 4 and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The sound makes good use of scary effects. One of the bad things in SH1 & SH2 was that the scary sounds, made many go away from the game. Luckly for those pepole, you can turn of these "Noise Effects" in the Options menu. The gun sounds are great, they are not as cheaply as Resident Evil´s gun sounds. The voice actors are great, but not as beliaveble as the characters, but still, they are doing good. The music is also good, mainly because it varieys so much. The music in cut-secenes are great, and they make them look like a drama movie. the in-game music is much differnt. Here music is maked out of the eviroment, which does not only sound scary, but sound good. The story is good, but you start with little pecies of it. But that just makes the game much more good. The first half of the game dosen´t take place in Silent Hill, but in Portland (i think so). The other half is in New Silent Hill from SH2. The game is not very long, but it´s a bit longer then Silent Hill 2. There are 3 endings, but the real ending do you get by completing the game once. After compeletion, you unlock a typewrither, which can be used to enter codes, to unlock secert costumes (finally!). Secert weapons can be unlocked, and new modes can be unlocked, so happy unlocking. As said before the game is not long, but 10-20 hours on the first one is right. It´s the puzzles that slows you down. They are good, and some of them hard. So you don´t just have to survive, you have to think. Overall is this game great. The things that have been added are helping the game to be much much better. This is the best Silent Hill game yet, and worth 10 score. I have made a challage that you should try. Play it alone, in the middle of the night, alone, with window wride open, on your first run-through. IT makes the game more scarier, like your in the game.
