Silent Hill 3 is a direct sequel to the stunning original, but this time there's even better goryness and more twists!
The story of SH3, like all SH games, is filled with twists and turns and surprises.You play as 17 year old, Heather, who goes out for a weekend trip to the local mall. One minute it's buzzing with people and then the next minute Heather is alone in a weird alternate version of the mall. Heather must find a way out of this strange town she's weirdly ended up in. Although Heather's journey is not without difficulty. You must fight disturbing monsters who will stop at nothing to kill you, solve unimaginable puzzles and uncover the truth behind your life and that of Silent Hill's.
Something I like about this game is that it's really easy to control and not one bit clunky or slow. It's fast and sensitive, although not in an annoying way. You'll definately feel as though you're in the game as you control Heather through the foggy streets of Silent Hill.
Atmosphere in the SH games are something that it is renowned for and SH3 does a spectacular job of living up to the high standards. Creepy and intense, your heart will be racing at 1000mph! The music doesn't help your nerves either and when it starts speeding up and getting louder, you'll know something unwanted is coming your way.
If you have read my review on SH2, you will know that I wasn't pleased about the weaponary in the game as it didn't even manage to have more than the original. Luckily I was really pleased with the weapon list in SH3 and hopefully so will you! Here's a list and a description of the weapons you'll use in SH3.
Handgun: The old handgun is back again! You can move and use it at the same time, but sadly it isn't really powerful and is only useful against one-on-one battles with monsters.
Knife: This is something Heather has already been equipped with. It's fast and saves a lot of ammo, but the only thing I wonder is why the hell was Heather carrying around a knife on a day out to the mall?
Steel Pipe: This melee weapon returns for the third time! It's faster than usual and does a bit more damage, although it's still pretty heavy to carry around.
Shotgun: The most powerful firearm in the game, the shotgun is great for bosses, but not for quick moving monsters.
Maul: A new weapon to the franchise, the maul inflicts devestating blows, although it's slow at swinging.
Katana: The most powerful melee weapon in the game, the katana has over several attacks. Although it can be difficult to use at times.
Stun Gun: It's powerful and stuns enemes quickly, but it has very short range.
Sub-Machine Gun: I find it very funny that there's a machine gun lying around Silent Hill. Then again, it's powerful and quick at reloading.
That's all the possible weapons that can be used in SH3 and I'm sure that you're pretty excited about using them. I mean, come on it's not every day you decapitate a monster nurse with a maul. Is it?
The amount of monsters in this game are somewhat impresive. They're very well detailed at some will possibly appear in your dreams at night. I'm not going to describe them as that would ruin the fun, I'll just tell you their names. On your journey you'll meet: Closers, Double Heads, Pendulums, Demon Nurses, Numb Bodies, Insane Cancers, Slurpers and Scrapers. Their very entertaining to watch die.
SH3 is a very entertaining game and I reccommend you play SH1 before you play SH3, as this game is a direct sequel to the original game. If you are lucky enough to play the original first and then play this one, you'll probably wonder "This isn't a direct sequel to the first game!". But over time, you'll see that it very much is. Let's just say, you'll see Cheryl again...
