A "Devil May Cry"-inspired reinvention of the series.

User Rating: 7.5 | Shinobi PS2
"Shinobi" is an updated 3D version of the old Sega side-scroller. It still retains that old school feel with generic level titles (Stage 1-A) and linear paths. But the action was updated with a "Devil May Cry"- like style. One of the coolest aspects of the game are the cutscenes which present a storyline right out of the old "Ninja Gaiden" NES games. The cutscenes are extemely cinematic in their presentation. They are well-directed and feature an exceptional, atmosheric muscial score.

Fans of "Devil May Cry" will be familiar to the action as you hack 'n slash through countless enemies before you fight the big boss. The game is extremely challenging. Unfortunately, it's very frustrating at times. Not only must you learn enemy attack patterns, but also move fast due to a constantly decreasing health bar. You must kill to stay alive which keeps the action pace from slowing down. The game features good boss battles and the levels are very old-school as mentioned before.

Overall, if you're a fan of ninjas, "Shinobi" should be worth your time. It's fast paced, challenging and extremely stylish. Hardcore fans will love every minute of it.
