It´s is a long journey. But you won´t regret it.

User Rating: 9.5 | Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne PS2
The RPG game SMT Nocturne is about a young boy who actually wants to visit his pretty teacher in the Shinjuku hospital with his friends Isamu and Chiaki. But then he finds her on the top of the building saying the world might need a new beginning. Suddenly apocalypse breaks into the world. Everyone dies. The protagonist gets the chance to become a half demon so he can survive. Now it´s up to him if the world is going to be rebuilt destroyed or he just might become god.

This might sound strange and composed in anime style. That is right for the story for sure. But the music in this game makes it more unique than any other game. The soundtrack is breath taking so no words are needed to express the emotions. In the whole games not a single word is spoken. Due to this fact smt has a special atmosphere, very melancholic and sad but also strange, interesting and especially different. You will choose you´re a name for the protagonist and a real name. If you do so the characters in the game use your real name only sometimes, it makes some moments of the game very emotional, and for example when you talk to the teacher, who´s the only one who calls you by your real name while everybody is treating you like a future leader of the world. Since you´re a demon summoner nothing is impossible right?
You travel through Japan(an absolutely must for JRPG fans): Asakusa, Shibuya, Yoyogi, Kabukicho , wonderful Ginza and many more while walking through building and streets or labyrinths you may use your map: The only way not to get lost which is very usual for the SMT series. The architecture is amazing, exactly and strict just like the game. The labyrinth of Amala is one of the most fascinating locations in the game. It´s a connection between the "real" world and the underworld.
60 Hz is duty because if the game was slower I probably wouldn´t be patient enough to complete it.
The random fights can get on your nerves but with the right items the fights may be decreased. Some boss fights are pretty easy, some are unexpected incredible hard. Even if you have the right allies and learned the specific spells, knowing the enemy's weakness it can be hard to win. You have to choose wisely which skill points you want to increase with the EXP you gain after a fight.
The different demons are already seen in the previous SMT parts. However there are over 100 demons: You may fight, talk to, recruit or fuse the demons to new stronger demons. This is pretty unique about SMT in general and might be interesting for all RPG gamers.
The most amazing advantage about SMT is the fact that the gamer can decide which way he wants to choose. You have the possibility to change the world or just let it become like it was before it was destroyed. The are several different endings.
The game itself is a pretty long journey though but it never gets boring. The journey is its own reward.

I probably didn´t mention many details. This game is a long story. But if you really like challenging JRPGs with style and innovation you will love it like I do.
