A great game with just the right mix of gore, plot and stealth to make it more than just another hack'n slash.

The story is set in Ancient Rome and revolves around 2 friends, Agrippa and Octavianus. Agrippa is a centurion in the Roman Army and Octavianus is Caesar's nephew. Caesar has been murdered and Agrippas father has been accused. Knowing he is innocent, Agrippa enters the gladiatorial games, as the winner will have the honour of executing (or in Agrippa's case, rescuing) his father. Octavianus infiltrates the senate to try and find the real culprit.

The game is great fun although they could have gotten a better voice for Agrippa. The graphics are pretty good but there is little to no facial expression besides cut scenes. SALVOS and special moves add a lot to the gameplay, and the arenas are very fun with lots of traps to lure enemies into. The boss battles aren't too hard but some of them may take a while to learn the attack patterns. The weapons are very diverse with scimitars, maces, swords, daggers, spears, halberds, morningstars, mauls... you can even beat someone to death with their own recently severed arm!

I have to say, the one thing I didn't like about this game was the chariot races. They completely killed the racing spirit in the game.

Overall this is a great game, and once you complete a battle in story mode you can go back and select it to try and get a better rank on it. If you have never played this, then go out and buy/rent it, you won't be disappointed.
