When you cut something off an enenmy, there is so much blood you can't tell what is falling off. Very addictive and cool

User Rating: 9.5 | Shadow of Rome PS2
This is a rather addictive game with heaps of gore. When you cut something off smebody, there's so much blood you can't see which body part is falling off. Plus the addition of being able to use heads and arms as weapons adds some extra gory interest. But the game is not good because it is gory; it has some interest chariot races and fighting bits, plus some extra stealth levels thrown in, and i like stealth. The games controls are a bit clunky and may take some time to figure out, but once you've mastered them they are easy to remember.
The game has lots to offer; fans of extreme gore will not be able to get away from this game, but stealth lovers will also like it. The arena battles in which you fight as Agrippa are full of action and satisfaction. You'll find hours of entertainment racing in chariots, fighting for the most kills, chopping up your foes and protecting hostages as well as much more.
If fighting's not your style, there's nothing to fear, as Octavanius, Agrippa's friend, goes undercover, donning disguises, sneaking about and smashing pots over the heads of guards. When playing as Octavanius, making noises and acting suspicious will get you caught, even if you're in a disguise. If you fear the difficulty of these stealth levels, do not fear. If you get seen by guards it is not over, although you do get killed in one shot. If your good enough and swift enough you can get away and hide until they forget about you.
The Storyline: As many of us know, a game can still be good even with a terrible storyline, but if you feel differently do not fear; for Shadow of Rome does not lack a storyline. Although it may not be the greatest storyline ever, it's still pretty good and keeps you playing.
As Agrippa, boast a whole arsenal of weapons and armour, ranging from bows and daggers to mauls and halberds. The more you cut off, the more you break, the more you maim, the more the crowd will love you and throw you weapons or food to replenish health.
As Octavanius, use impressive stealth maneuvres and distracting sounds to lure guards away, or knock them out with several different potential weapons. Use disguises and don't act suspicious to get into secret places. Guards may start to ask you questions. If you answer incorrectly, you could give away your identity and may have to run for it.
All in all, Shadow of Rome is a good game, and i especially love the Arena matches and chariot races. Although hitting guards with jugs as octavanius is also pretty fun.
