User Rating: 8.4 | Shadow of Rome PS2
I had never seen or heard of Shadow of Rome the first time I layed hands on it, at my friends house all the way in Brazil. Shadow of Rome is one of those games that just hits you, you stay hooked and you play for hours on end, knowing no limits whatsoever. Similarly, this game knows few limits; as a hack and slash game it has hundreds, and i mean hundreds, possibilities to kill your enemies. These possibilities only increase as you switch weapons. Aside from the range of combat actions, the weapons
variety is lenghty, from bows to swords to giant axes and catapults. As opposed to many hack and slash games, this is one of the few that has auto aim as an option, so you do waste precious time trying to face the enemie while getting slashed to bits...its straight-forward.

The biggest downer of the game is the mere fact that it is purely a single player game, there are no multi-player modes whatsoever. This hurts the replay value of the game a ton. Shadow of Rome more or less makes up for its loss of multiplayer with the "Octavious" Missions. In such missions
there is no hack and slash, but instead, there is alot of sneaking around trying to accomplish tasks without being noticed, and if you do get noticed, ending the life of the one who saw you, before he calls the others. You can use many things to your advantage such as assuming the dead's clothes
as your own and fooling the rest, or sneaking behind a guard and strangling him with a rope. Such details add to the fun of this game and gives a break from the hack and slash aspect. Not to mention all the blood that spews from enemies heads or limbs as you rip it off or slice it clean off.

All in all, its a solid game. Not a game i would spend all day looking for nor spend 50$ on, but it doesnt cost 50$ now does it? You get your moneys worth, i guarantee it.
