feels like the good old days.....
STORY:
the story for SHADOW COMPLEX is that you and your girlfriend are hiking through the forest enjoy your marry selves until a super big evil corporation decides to cock block your nuts and take her away and then you being the "average" giuy have to take down a INSANE amount of bad guys and in the end save the world.....simple? yes the story is simple and frankly not that interesting.....
Also I would like to go on record saying I don't really care about the anti homosexualness of orsen scott card because frankly the story sucks in general for this game, nothing really groundbreaking and for being anti gay he seemed in enders game to make little kids get naked....and fight....so take that how you want it orsen go frak yourself......
GRAPHICS:
The game was built off the horse power of the unreal 3 engine, the game that powers gears of war 2 and is a graphical powerhouse in detail.....now there is a small problem with this graphical detail....being a side scroller most of the "detail" is put into the backgrounds and foregrounds making the detail very small due to the actual size of the main character to the level.
Now with the clean AI enemies, and very nicely detailed enviroments there is a huge downside to using the engine in this way, its constantly from the side and the game dwells a lot into vent crawling and close spaces which doesn't really bring the ooh's and ahhh's but yet it still does have its huge moments with big fights and huge explosions.......
GAMEPLAY:
Now this game plays like a updated version of many famous side scrollers and goes out in style, the gameplay starts you off very basic but as you progress you gain new weapons and abilities to continue taking names and most of all prove that this character is vagina whipped....BIG TIME!
Anyway, the game pulls a nice little neat trick that can really just get under your skin till you learn to master it, it pulls out a new idea and addes the background into the action and allows you to get and shoot everything into the background when enemies are visible which is totally new and awesome and it works from time to time until the frustration sets in on a few rare occassions.
OVERALL AND CLOSING
SHADOW COMPLEX is a new style with old gameplay, it works for what it is, a very cheap arcade game which could pull out more, I honestly would have liked to see multiplayer but I honestly don't know how it could have worked in the context of this game from a design and gameplay standpoint. I just don't see it so when it comes down to it, for 1200 microsoft points and with no real BIG expensive blockbusters over the summer it is great to sit down and relax and play a old gameplay style in the new generation of graphics just also....turn off the brain because the story isn't there just a lot of explosions.....
