Does not live up to its predecessors, but a good generic real time strategy game if your bored

User Rating: 7 | Seven Kingdoms: Conquest PC
Before i get to my review let me recap the first two games of the Seven Kingdoms series. The first game in the series, Seven Kingdoms was innovative in that it added more detailed diplomacy and espionage and a mythical race of creatures called Fryhtans that would raid your kingdom, it also had the depth that i wish i could see in another rts game. Its sequel Seven Kingdoms II: The Fryhtan Wars made the Fryhtans playable, had the same espionage and diplomacy though in my opinion was a bit more streamlined and detailed than its predecessor, and it had a bit more focus on combat. Now we have Seven Kingdoms: Conquest and let me tell you, it is Seven Kingdoms in name only.

Seven Kingdoms: Conquest pits ancient civilizations against demons. Now sadly to say, the human civilizations are not as diverse as they were in Seven Kingdoms one or two but the demons are a real treat for the eyes as some of their unit designs are pretty creative and original. The game play was a disappointment however, it almost has nothing to do with its predecessors, the espionage and diplomacy is not as detailed and it seems that the focus is mainly combat. There are 6 resources in the game, 3 for demons and 3 for humans. Food, Wealth, and Reputation for the humans which is pretty much what they had in the previous games and Blood, Fear, and Soul Stones for the demons, the resources are fitting for each so i really don't mind. The units are detailed really well and the demons appear to have the most diverse selection of units while the humans are a bit more limited although the human units look good as well. It has a unique game mod called Die Diablo, a pretty interesting mode i have yet to see in another strategy game. The single player campaigns are not that good though the monologues they have in the intro is pretty interesting although it has nothing to do with the mission usually. The music though not the best is still pretty good and the sound effects against not that good but they get the job done. The intro cut scene looks like it was made at the start of the games development which again it reminds me of SK2's intro movie so again i did not mind it.

If you are looking for a good generic strategy game that has a few unique things in it then by all means, pick up a copy. But if you are looking for a Seven Kingdoms 3 then do not buy it as you will be disappointed.
