Had high hopes for this game, sadly those hopes were swept aside.
That was the biggest and baddest feature that the developers talked about for this game. They even said they dropped multiplayer pvp to focus more on co-op. That's ultimately why I got this game when it comes down to it.
I was lead to believe the co-op was 4 players. It's not. It's only 2 players. If I knew this before buying I wouldn't have wasted my money.
Next, the game uses steam. No problem with that, steam is great. There is a feature called "steam matchmaking" in the game that is (I guess?) supposed to find you a co-op match to play in. In short, it doesn't. I sat there for 20 minutes while this matchmaking system searched and found nothing. So I gave up and made my own OPEN co-op game hoping someone would join.
No one joined.
The sense of disappointment can't even be explained in words here.
Next, the gameplay itself is more of a Just Cause 2 mod than anything else. It plays EXACTLY the same as Just Cause 2 when it comes down to it. So if you have ever played just cause 2, then that's basically what this is. The graphics in Dx11 aren't bad, but they aren't good either. The whole joke-not-serious theme behind the game weighs them down a lot. I guess that's the theme they wanted though.
NPC drivers are absolutely dumb as hell. There are actually missions where you are forced to let them drive while you sit in the car. They crash into walls, crash into other cars and they twitch all over the place, it's absurd. I had to do one mission over and over again because the NPC driver was simply that dumb.
Next, combat. You will fight wave after wave after wave of the SAME EXACT enemies every single mission. Guess what? They don't stop spawning on you. They will continue to spawn and swarm you again and again, the same enemies that wear the same outfits every time. I've been playing the game on "hard" mode but its still easy as hell. It's just repetitive garbage. You can't even use your custom car in missions and activities, your car that you work hard customizing just magically disappears. The game's a freaking joke.
Everything is a over-the-top joke in this game. But I knew that when buying. I just didn't think it was THIS ridiculous.
Ultimately I purchased this because I wanted to play a fun crazy co-op game. The co-op however is only 2 players and the matchmaking system doesn't work. So it defeated the purpose entirely.
This is basically a single player game, more like a mod I would say, in relations Just Cause 2 with character customization and vehicle customization.
Did anyone else notice the parachute mechanics or the mechanics when the guy fast-dives though the windshield or a window to get into a car? It's straight out of just cause 2. THQ.. Ahem.... cough. It was obvious, not going to lie.
Ultimately I do have fun in this game... playing by myself... because I enjoyed just cause 2, which wasn't a bad game. But you have to take all of that with a grain of salt because both of these games get repetitive after a short while. I think I would be enjoying it more if I could actually play the game co-op. Sadly it's only 2 players and the matchmaking doesn't work.
Enemy A.I takes cover and whatnot, but the game is just simply too easy. The only time it actually gets hard is when the game tries to overwhelm you. This happens every time and it gets predictable every single time. The same enemies show up every single time. Repetitive, repetitive, repetitive. I've been playing the game on "hardcore" and it basically plays like what I thought normal would have played like.
The developers said they focused heavily on co-op in interviews that I watched, they made this out to be an insanely awesome co-op game. In short, that was a blatant marketing lie.
Ultimately a waste of money. If you already own Just Cause 2 then there's really no reason to get this game. I haven't been this disappointed since I played dragon age 2. If I never played Just Cause 2 I think I would have rated this game higher probably.
Sadly the copy-paste can't escape my gaze. 5.0 game. Check this game out when its price drops drastically.
