It's not often that a game's bad press actually helps you to enjoy the game itself but Rule of Rose is definitely not as bad as everyone has said. Yes the controls are a bit annoying and cumbersome, yes it could have been longer and yes they could have done more with what is actually a fairly original and macabre plot but don't let it put you off completely. Silent Hill games were not well received after the 1st game for ps1 but they still became cult classics and I believe that this is in that same niche genre where it is worth playing through once even if it's just to see a game that at least attempts to create an original storyline that will leave you guessing even after the credits role. However, do not play this game if you are simply playing it because it was 'banned' or if you're expecting shocks galore. It's not as bad as they say in many ways - both in gameplay but also in shock value. Buy it, as I did, and listen to the bad press. That way you will get more out of it than you expect when it exceeds your expectations...even if that is only slightly. This game was hampered by it's attempt to create something taboo breaking which ended up ruining what is actually a half decent game...Poor girl unlucky girl....
