Dual joysticks for enhancing the surgeon's reflexes.

User Rating: 7.5 | Robotron: 2084 ARC
A quick retro review of the arcade classic from 1982, gameplay wise. Robotron 2084 is the clumsy ancestor of arena shooters ( are there any machines left ? ). Think about a prehistoric 2D squared arena filled with 2 bit aimbots running madly at you. Fast paced, adrenaline rushed, the action provided was daunting enough to overwhelm the best reflexed players of the world at that time. The dual joysticks were evidently intimidating to the average tester passing by, and wasting a few coins for lasting a mere minute or so each try. Mastering them can be described as a breathtaking endeavor, the player has to adapt its neural coordination to both joysticks instead of the usual buttons found on any other machine. You'll even have to control your sweating in order to avoid just an unfortunate thumb slip, for an otherwise game over. Graphics were a bit outdated even compared to other smash hits from the era; the game almost looked like a self-contained Space Invaders in closed chambers, in a disorganised fashion where you have to move 360 degrees. Coloring was limited, as well as the low bit sounds, even inciting the spectators behind the master player to mostly look at both hands grasping the dreaded controllers. Come on, they're only two little red spheres to push in all directions........ Ultimately, the layered challenge uproars indefinitely towards a frantic practice range from all sides throwing at you the same modeled robots. How relentless they are though. This game could have caused a nervous breakdown to every arcader plugged to it more than an hour. Some games are a stress reliever; this ancient progenitor is the antidote! If you can find this antiquity.......
