Interesting level system, quirky combat, excellent storyline.

There is no level-up system in the game. Not in a traditional sense, anyway. Your stats increase by having your characters "master" a certain weapon/item by using it in combat multiple times. Since items have limited use in the game, there's a "training" system that lets you fight a random battle at any time and lets you use your items without expiring them.

The combat system itself is a little tricky. As you perform actions and your enemies attack you, a limit gauge will fill up. At Level 1, you can use certain attacks from weapons that you character is less proficient with (I.E., weaker abilities). There are also Level 2, Level 3, and Executioner Level abilities that use up different amounts of the gauge. The Executioner Level abilities are a bit harder to deal with. You need your limit gauge to be completely filled, and once you use an Executioner Level attack (an EXTREMELY powerful attack, mind you, that will wipe out basically any non-boss monster in a single hit), it will shatter your limit gauge, leaving your party with only basic attacks for the rest of the battle. So, it puts you in an interesting position of balancing the powerful abilities in longer fights.
