This doesn't feel gimmicky in any sense. With so many VR "experiences" coming out, Guerrilla Cambridge has done an amazing job with making sure this feel nothing less than a game. In doing so, they've created an experience so captivating that it'd be a crime to not try this game out somewhere at least! If you can't afford a VR, find someone that has it. Play.This.Game. The single player portion lets you choose your AI teammates and level them up or buy new ones. You can use the offline teammates in online battles vs other players teams, or you can play full human vs human matches. There are few different types of mechs are different variations. Finding the one that's right for you is fun in itself as you can test drive them in the test arena. I was hooked with the original Vampire class's 3rd mech, but I found later that I'm more into the brute that drops a nuke whenever he dies. Though it sounds cheap, the more skilled players know to run away after they get a kill.
I could go on and on about features. My only complaints are the after the match lobbies. I'd love for there to be a highlight video of some sort of the MVP of each match. For now, the player is stuck with a boring celebration screen after the match that really takes too long for what it does...or doesn't do. That's all I've got.
