It ain't no COD4, but it ain't no Hour of Victory either.

User Rating: 8 | Resistance: Fall of Man PS3
Well, anybody who has a PS3 probably has Resistance: Fall of Man. And for good reason. It is a pretty solid shooter. I'm going to break it down into simple speak.

Story= Well, I can't say it is original, because it is not (mankind fighting vicious alien things... cough *Gears of War* cough), but it does it well enough to pass. The characters are kind of hard to get attached to, and Hale is a pretty quiet guy, so you feel isolated form him. Nonetheless, the story is good and carries its own.

7.5/10

Graphics= As a launch title, you shouldn't be expecting Killzone 2 graphics, but they feel okay at best. Everything is a mixture of grey, brown, and puke. The Chimera are pretty detailed, and the guns look nice, but one can't help but feel like they would fly on the PS2. Considering this game came out 4 years ago, when the PS2 was still live and well, I can forgive the derivative art style and graphics. Considering this game came otu the same years as Gears of War, they leave more to be desired.

7.5/10

Gameplay= Nothing you haven't seen in a FPS before. However, there are some quirks that hold the game back. For starts you have to hold down the crouch button, which is a real pain in the ass after a while. Enemy bullets move really slow as well, sometimes giving you time to dodge them. Also, there is no transistion between walking and aiming DTS. If you aim DTS, the gun simply pops to DTS mode, with no transistion. While this is no big deal, it just feels odd and a little quirky. The weapon switching is odd, but effective. Firefights are intense and frantic, and will give your speakers a workout. And with Dualshock 3 support now apart of the game, explosions and gunfire are actually felt.

8.0/10

Sound= War. What do you expect? The guns have some oophm, but the Chimera weapons (obviously) sound like laser guns. Explosions sound pretty off, and the voice work could be improved. The firefights can be overwhelming, and the guns sounds feel appropriate for the type.

Well, overall Resistance:Fall of Man is good launch title. Don't buy this game expecting the next COD4, because you will be sorely dissapointed. Resistance doesn't do much worng, but doesn't do much right either. It is just a good ol
FPS. Nothing new and original to find here (besides the weapons and enemies maybe). Now that it is a $20 title, any PS3 owner should own it. It has 40 player multiplayer, which I have yet to try (bought the game in 2007... sad I know) but I'm pretty sure there is no headset support. All in all a solid shooter that does what is can. The sequel is pretty cheap now, so you might want to look into that.
