First person shooter for the PS3, but not as good as others out there.

This wasn't the first game I got when I bought my PS3, but I got it because at the time it was about the ONLY first person shooter for the console. The game is all right, but is not the best that one can play. The missions are linear, but with large levels; the weapons are good and varied, with a secondary fire that give a lot of variety in your approach; the enemy difficult to fight, being smart enough not to be out in the open and good enough to flank you and flush you out of cover, while being hard to take down.
The single player missions are a bit tedious, and some of the areas are just brutal to get through. Having regenerative health sometimes doesn't even matter, as you're mowed down after a couple of shots. What had me replaying this game is the multiplayer part of it, but not the online aspect. I've finished the game maybe 4-5 times now with a friend playing co-op. Not that many games in the PS3 have co-op shooters that are not online only. If more games had this feature, I'd be a happy camper. I did play the "co-op" version of Resistance 2, and I found it seriously lacking after the first one had the option. It may feel tacked on to some to have a second character with no story tag along on the single player campaign, but with a game as hard as this one, the help is most welcome, and I don't care where the other guy came from.
I bought this game when the price dropped to $30. It may be even cheaper now. If you want a game 2 people can play and don't need internet access to play, give this one a try. The single player campaign is tough but satisfying to finish, although the story isn't the best one out there.
