PS3's shooter license tries to be it's killer app, but doesn't get far with frustrating and tedious gameplay.

I started playing this game with very high expectations due to the majority of other review scores. The first thing I noticed about the game, that I didn't like is that it had a health bar system instead of regenerating health. Regenerating health doesn't exactly make things easier (see Call Of Duty series) but it is a big improvement over the frustration of having 1 health bar left and being forced to move on with such a big weakness. Your enemies are a lot stronger than your allies, and for most of the game you fight them by yourself. I can understand using stealth tactics and cover to defeat the enemies, but many times you just get overrun. 4 of every 5 gunfights in this game were extremely frustrating in the fact that the checkpoints were spaced too far apart or you get overwhelmed by 30 guys against just you. I wanted to have fun with this game, but every firefight felt tedious and frustrating instead of epic and fun. One thing I really didn't like about this game is the way they presented the protagonist. His background was that he was American and was sent in not knowing about the enemy. For some reason, he is godlike, killing swarms of these enemies by himself, and it removes all suspense and potential horror the enemies could have brought in. His influence for all of this? I guess he's just a good solider. He has no charisma, no lines, but he's a killing machine who basically destroys the entire enemy army single handily. I find that this game could have been so much better, if they made you feel less like a god, and more like a solider, where the overwhelming odds create a fun atmosphere rather than a frustrating experience. It had some fun parts, but the first thing I think of when thinking of this game is frustration.
