Great fun for a cheap price, though no innovator of the genre

User Rating: 8 | Resistance: Fall of Man PS3
Resistance: Fall of Man is the I think 2nd FPS Insomniac's ever worked on that chronicles the adventures of a Nathan Hale as he attempts to liberate 1950s Britain from Chimera control and battles a Chimera transforming virus inside him. The story is actually quite interesting and is mostly displayed through nicely done Black and White picture slideshows and Narrations. You'll care little for the 3 main characters though(Nathan Hale is bald, has gold eyes and barely talks even though he singlehandedly saves the world, reminds me of someone he too has golden "eyes" and rarely talks), nonetheless this is good stuff and the documents you'll find will reveal that the Chimera are indeed quite the threat, too bad the game ends with unanswered questions and a cliff hanger.

The game plays like a typical FPS with you running around with big guns from point a to point b be killing every baddie along the way and sometimes fighting with boneheaded allies who the game makes sure die! The Chimera come at a wide, interesting variety all pretty much fun to shoot at and their AI covers their type. However it's the awesome guns that separates this game from other shooters. Its not that their the biggest, it's just that they've all got creative secondary modes and all are a bit wacky(just like their cousin R&C), their just fun to shoot with and you can carry all of em.The game's got some vehicle sequences too break things up( you get to pilot a giant robot) all good fun and rare enough not to mess up the game.
The campaign is long enough, there are no Trophies, but skill points, which are fun to get and its worth replaying for extra weopons and an unlockable difficulty.2 can play, not online, but hey co-op is still fun with a buddy at your side(games these days seriously need to get splitscreen multiplayer, it's still fun) and the online multiplayer is classless but has got some good rescalable maps and can be tackled through up to 4 player splitscreen.

The games setting is quite original and you'll easily have that 1950s England feel, though with aliens as u go explore the world(imagine entering an old bar, with the pool tables, and the bottles, only to have a laser turret open fire at you) and even later on inside alien complexes the soldiers will still give that impression. Sadly the graphics are so Brown and then so blue that it does get bland and now they're outdated plus you can't see your legs c'mon this is the next gen people, you should be able to see your whole torso even shees.Though being able to hit pots and pans is good fun. The voice acting's alright and sound effects do their job,the military music is good but nothing special.

Apart from that really are this game loses marks because long distances between checkpoints and some annoying "respawning enemies behind your back" cheap deaths and bland 'bosses", however if your looking for fun at a cheap price(this games real cheap now) or to find out about what happened before R2 then u won't be disappointed, the games got some thrills and cheap scares at time. Just don't expect innovation, you've seen this before, maybe even a bit better.
