Great gameplay makes up for the bland environments.

User Rating: 8 | Resistance: Fall of Man PS3
Resistance: Fall of Man has you fighting against a foe that is definitely worth your time and effort. This is certainly a challenging game, with the Chimera being quick, smart and tough to take down. You'll constantly be on your toes as you'll be taken by surprise constantly and under frequent pressure.

This was an early game to the PS3, so the graphics compared to it's followup, Resistance 2, it seems a bit "boxy" and the environments bland. But other than that, this is a solid, challenging and fun game and worth giving a try. Even though the environments are somewhat bland, they actually go well with mood and setting of the story and create a good ambiance. There are good choice of weapons and a good variety of enemies. And even though the story and character development is good enough, the pacing of the gameplay is great.

The single player campaign is a good length and is challenging, yet somewhat lonely even when you come across your occasional AI teammates. But it definitely creates a tense mood throughout and you really feel like your fighting for your survival. It's too bad that most of your team members don't really play a significant part in helping you take out some enemies and are actually pretty of dumb. But at least they create somewhat of a distraction to the Chimera which will allow you to pick some off without being shot at. They'll also start shooting in the direction of Chimera when they appear so that helps in finding them. But the real fun to be had is playing the game in coop mode. I found that playing the game this way is more satisfying, because not only is it easier, but it's great fun having real help picking off and flanking baddies!

One of the major qualms I had with this game though, is that sometimes the distance between checkpoints could be ridulous to the point of frustrating. I suppose that is part of the challenge of the game, but seriously, having to go through so much effort, die, and then have to do it all over again made me have to walk away from it for a while before I could attempt to try the section over again.

R:FoM does feature online and offline multiplayer and is a lot of fun, though lately I haven't seen many people playing it, probably because there are more and more online games coming out for the PS3 that are more in depth.

Overall, this is a solid game and is deserving of your time. At the very least a rental but definitely worth the $20 that it is now.
