*****Introduction*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Good:
Great game-play - Interesting story - Get start - Great visuals - Good online multiplayer

-------------------------------------------------------

The Bad:
No online two-player cooperative mode

-------------------------------------------------------

The game was first released as a PlayStation 3 launch title in Japan on November 10 2006, in the United States on November 17 2006, until finally making it way to Europe on March 23 2007. Resistance: Fall of Man is the first PS3 game I played due to me getting it included with the PS3. For it being my first PS3 game, it will always have a spot in my favourite's list, but overall, Fall of Man is a great game that was both (to me) exciting and forth coming into the new generation of gaming.

*****The Plot*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Story:

The story is set in 1951, years after World War 2, and during the years of the Cold War. Now the Cold War and World War 2 are nothing to do with the story, and are never mentioned in the game giving the scene that the real world war is against the Chimera, an alien race intending in exterminating all of humanity, instead of it being Nazi German soldiers etc.

The story revolves around Sgt. Nathan Hale, part of the 12.000-man task force of the United States Army Rangers, who throughout the story doesn't really feel as "main protagonist" material. Nathan (along with the rest of his team) is sent into the heart of Britain in order to retrieve a secret weapon that the British claim can be used against the Chimera invaders. On route Nathan's team was attack by a Chimeran spire attack, an attack that kills and infects any living organism within a wide radius. Anyone that does survive is taking by the Chimera in which are experimented on. However Hale was the only one in his team to survive the attack. Despite being his normal self, Hale finds himself going through dramatic ability changes due to the infection lingering in his body. Through the infection, Hale possesses increased metabolism, increased strength, limited regeneration, and leaving his irises (coloured part of the eye) bright yellow much like that of the Chimera's themselves.
Along Hale's mission, he meets Captain Rachel Parker who aids him through radio, and is assisted by Lieutenant Stephen Cartwright, a British Royal Marines Commando. Hale and the British forces continue to fight through Britain to retrieve the "Secret Weapon" which turns out being a Chimeran creature called an "Angel". The British Intelligence believe that this Chimeran creature communicates and controls the Chimeran army through telepathy. Hale (along side the British arm, and other characters) must find a way to put a stop to the Chimeran invaders, and save mankind.

The story is intervening and interesting enough to keep you going. The characters may not be as memorable or as forth coming as other great characters out there. Overall the story was good.

*****The Graphics*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall Design:

The visuals, for being one of the first game on the PS3, is great even to this day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*****The Game-Play*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game-Play:

Resistance: Fall of Man is a first person shooter (FPS) set in an alternate history. The controls are fluent and good, and the game-play is fun. The weapons range from similar real based weapons from the 1950's, as well as futuristically weapons in accordance due to the games story. Some weapons have special abilities i.e. the Auger's (a Chimeran weapon) bullets burrow through walls, as well as other cool weapons. The weapons in Fall of Man can feel somewhat original, but there cool and fun to shoot with nonetheless.
The game features melee attacks, and the motion sensing feature of the SIXAXIS controller is used for a number of things including shaking off enemies that grab onto the player, shaking off tags and flames in multiplayer, and quickly bringing up a map or leaderboard in a multiplayer match.
The player also has access to turrets and a drivable jeep with a gun turret on certain levels.
There are also skill points that can be earned throughout the single player game. These are awarded for certain actions that are hinted at by their titles; however, the specific details are not revealed until the skill point is actually earned. There are generic skill points that can be earned during any single level, and some that are specific to certain levels of the game. Each task is worth a different number of points which are used to unlock additional media for the game.
In addition, multiple Intel documents can be found scattered throughout each level. These give the player an insight into what has happened, is happening, and will happen.
Resistance: Fall of Man also includes a cooperative mode, which lets the player play through the entire game with someone else but as good as that sounds, the cooperative mode does not support online co-op, which means if you don't like playing slit-screen and you really want to play Fall of Man with a friend, you may be disappointed.

-------------------------------------------------------

Online Multiplayer:

Resistance: Fall of Man features a multiplayer mode for up to 40 players online with a 4 player offline mode.
Ranked matches automatically place players in a match from a chosen category. The matches intend to group players whose ranks are the same or very close together, to make the matches fair. Ranked matches give the player experience, which will allow the player to move up different ranks. As the player moves up ranks, special rewards are unlocked for their character.
There are three categories the player can choose from, each with its own modes.
Free-for-all: which is a simple free-for all deathmatch. There is also conversion mode, an elimination game type.
Team Deathmatch, which is what the name states Two teams battle to see who can get to the point objective first by killing the members of the opposing team.
Team Objective: Which consists of Meltdown, Capture the Flag, Breach or Assault game modes.
In addition to joining a game mode, you are able to custom your own games ether by hosting for anyone to play, or any for selected friends, as well as play offline modes.

The online multiplayer as a lot to keep you busy for a while, and it is fun and engaging.

*****The Sound*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sound Design:

The sound design is really nothing special, but it is good nonetheless. Good voice acting, decent sound effects, and an acceptable soundtrack fitting of the story.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*****Life Value*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lifespan / Replay Value:

The campaign will sure to last you about 10 or so hours which is a good length for a FPS. The reply value then relies on the online multiplayer, which is sure to keep you playing for many more hours.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*****Final Thought*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall Resistance: Fall of Man may be outdated now, but it is still a worthy play through nonetheless. I loved it back then, and I still find it great now. Not the best FPS, but a damn fine one if I do say so myself.
