I am a huge fan of the Resident Evil franchise. I've played ever since the very first one and the side games. RE7 received mixed reviews for how it turned out. I wouldn't say that it is a bad game, it really is a good game. It was just missing a lot of stuff.
1. GAMEPLAY
The gameplay was awesome! Shifting from third-person to first-person was a dull move by Capcom to begin with, but as we were given the horror genre of the game more, I can say that the move was perfect. Playing first-person on a game that focuses not just on the action and plot, but also relies on the horror aspect makes it awesome to be played on first-person
2. GRAPHICS
Beautiful. What we saw at E3 was the same as what we experienced in playing the game. That's how you live up to the expectations of the fans around the world. It is beautiful. From the old RE engine all the way to the updated RE engine made this game the best in the franchise graphics-wise.
3. STORY
The story was okay. It ain't the best. There were a lot of loopholes throughout the story wherein we go back and forth to unlock, open, or do something on a location that is an extreme part of the story is kind of frustrating. First, the implementation of the horror genre by getting jumpscares throughout the house whilst Jack was following you, making you take a longer time in progressing. Second, the introduction of characters were null and void esque type of story. They are indeed all connected. But they could've at least gave hints as to what will happen after the Baker house chapter. There was a gap in between the Jack boss fight and the wrecked ship. Although my acquisitions are a bit vague, but that's how I interpreted the story.
4. THE CONNECTION
RE7 vaguely connects to the previous games, but it is quite obvious. The one's that I liked are the mansion's shadow locks which was in the first RE game and was also designed by the same contractor! Next, the newspaper articles, photos, and notes scattered, lying around the house that not only reminisces the major characters of the series, but also the characters in the side games. After the middle part, we get introduced to Umbrella and Redfield. That is quite stupid to place them so close to each other. It was so obvious that once we saw the Umbrella helicopter that they will be there to help or do something. They should'lve given a gap between seeing the copter and meeting Redfield that way it may build up the expectation of meeting a character form the past games.
