The game that started it all for me
For one thing the music is spot on, i have never had such a feeling of "i don't want to go in that room" since this game, the music was always spot on and ranged from low-key piano to full on terror in equal measures, but it was at its best when there was a break in the music, that always got to me as you always got that dreaded feeling that something bad is about to happen, this whole game has a sense of doom about it and it is perfect at making you feel on edge.
Another thing that always stands out for me is its artistic design, i mean wow this was revolutionary, simplistic city but so well lit and shadows casted in area's made you feel that this is the end of the world.
Lets not forget the story as well, from the awesome prologue onwards you just feel that this is a scary game, and when you finally get to control the characters tell me there was not a bit of reluctance in taking control, knowing that you are about to go through hell and back in this game. Standout parts have to be the whole section in the Police station when you first meet the licker, in the gun shop as the zombies break through the window, and of course, the first time you meet the tyrant!
All in all the scariest game i ever played and by far my favorite in the series to which i have even returned to play on my PS3! i highly recommend this game and just try to put yourself back in that era when graphics did not matter and you will have a blast.
