The father of all Wii first person shooters. Short review.

User Rating: 8 | Red Steel WII
Story: Sorry, but the princes is being held by another Yakuza.

As a young bodyguard hired by the head of a Yakuza clan, you fall in love with the person you were hired to protect.

The game begins with you being engaged, waiting in a hotel to meet your future father-in-law, when a group renegade of Yakuza attemps to kill him.

With your father-in-law fatally wounded and fiance kidnapped, you grab a sword and a gun to take back your girl and punish the traitors.

Gameplay: Enjoyable shootouts. Clunky but entertaining sword duels.

The game uses it's shooting mechanics like most Wii shooters, but sadly there's very little You can adjust to make the game play, like you want to.

Gameplay focuses mainly on running and gunning, but there are some spots, where you'll have to take cover and think your way of taking down enemy forces.

Red Steel's biggest element of interest was the sword fighting.

Well... it works for the most part, but it's very schematic and does not feel like really wielding a blade.

The biggest issue is that the game decides for you, when you have to run around trigger-happy or duel someone. It would be nice to have a choice, since you have a gun ready to take down the modern samurai.

You have 8 directions you can swing in, you can parry incoming slashes with a smaller sword in your left hand and dodge enemy attacks.

There are some combos and special attacks at your disposal, but they're not really fun or effective to use.

Graphics: Very nice for a launch title.

While the game features some low resolution texture here and there, Red Steel uses some great visual effects and the overall the visuals and pleasing.

Audio: Quite a mixbag.

The game uses some great sound effects for guns and sword clashes, but the biggest failure of the audio departament is in the game's voiceover.

Actors try to sound japanese, while using english language.
This is ofcourse a good idea, pretending you are an american, and they try to comunicate with you with whatever english skills, but most of their lines sound iritating.

Overall: Quite some fun.

Yeah.. I know.. we've all done that a 100 times already, but the games is entertaining and challenging enough to keep some shootout hungry players busy.
