this is the game that made me quit Counter-Strike after years of playing

User Rating: 10 | Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 PC
the most realistic FPS out there, period

buy this game and support developers of realistic shooters

this game on a full server on the right maps is as close to WW2 combat as you'll ever get, its just hard to describe the sound and visual of your character gasping for air and sprinting from one cover to another as bullets hiss by your head, grenades go off, body parts go flying past you as an enemy machine gun rattles away out of a second story window with green tracers that ricochet off the burned out vehicle next to you, and you have to time your rushes with your teammates to get to it and throw a grenade into the window, or clear out the first floor and work your way up the staircase, or smoke the front of the building and go around the house to hit them from the rear - this ia typical description of a shootout on the Danzig map, which is like the equivalent of dust2 for Red Orchestra, as far as popularity and playability goes

with about half the team wielding bolt action rifles, teammates are practically forced to work together just to survive walking across the street; houses are cleared out slowly and quietly since the enemy can hear your footsteps creaking on the floor and hear you call out for help since all radio commands are in the language of the team you're on, you know there are enemies down the hall if you're playing the Russians and someone says something in German in the next room; there are just so many good design decisions that combine to make this the excellent game that it is, you really have to experience them together

this game is addictive and fun, and is the first FPS to tear me away from CS:Source, which says alot for anyone that plays a decent amount of CS

after this game every other FPS will seem unrealistic and oversimplified
