Blow $%!# up!

User Rating: 9.3 | Red Faction PS2
Now here's a fun game. In fact, I lost my old copy, so I just bought another off ebay. Red Faction is a really fun and innovative FPS with no equal. With the all new Geo-Mod technology built into the engine, you can actually blow holes in just about any wall in the game! And you can practically tunnel on through these walls to other areas! A great point with this is early where you can blow up both sides of a bridge that a tank's on to collapse the bridge and send the tank to oblivion. But I'm getting ahead of myself. The game is just like Total Recal and Blade Runner, if you've seen them. You're a miner on Mars, under an opressive regime of security guards. And worst yet, there're viruses roaming throughout the mines, killing your fellow miners. So, a rebellion gets underway, and that's where you get control of your character. The game is filled with tons of cool weapons, lots of which are explosive to take full advantage of the Geo-Mod technology. And you can even commandeer enemy vehicles and use them against them. Red Faction is visually stunning. Aside from blowing holes in walls, the environments are extremely detailed, and the faces and expressions are highly realistic. Not to mention the fact that the maps you'll be exploring are huge and take a lot of time to get through. This title has great controls, as is common with the FPS line. Point and shoot basically. And it's good having so many weapons to shoot with, you can even fight with a flame thrower and a riot shield! Unfortunately, the PS2 seems to lack memory, so when you're blowing holes in walls, you are limited to about 50 holes before everything becomes solid adamantium and is indestructable. The AI however, is very nice. And the voice acting is a nice touch on an already great game. So, there you have it. Red Faction is an outstanding FPS, topped so far only by Goldeneye 007. Red Faction is a very worthy purchase for any FPS fan, and a fair play for anyone else.
