Red Faction Is Back, With An Addictive Open-World Adventure On Mars

User Rating: 7.5 | Red Faction: Guerrilla X360
Red Faction: Guerilla surprised me, through a friend I was turned onto it for my taste in a good sci-fi plot, hardcore destruction similar to Mercenaries and of course i've been a fan of the Red Faction franchise since the beginning. Guerilla is about freeing the people of Mars, now fully terraformed and being used to mine for ore and resources all overseen by the ruthless regime of the EDF or the Earth Defence Force who were in the original game the saviors. In Guerilla a lot has changed since the EDF came to help, now working for the corporations back on Earth they oversee through force their profits and business.

You are Alec Mason, and you have joined Red Faction in their fight against the EDF. Personally the story does leave a not to be desired, its not the most original plot a game could have but with Guerilla its gameplay makes up for it. Guerilla is an open-world game that allows full-on destruction of the environment and buildings. To help you with this, you can utilise vehicles as the hammer in bringing down a building to of course explosives you can plant on the structures vital points to bring it down.

You complete Guerilla actions, or side missions and tasks to bring down the EDF's power in the region and push the Red Faction's up until you undertake a final mission to free that sector entirely, and control it fully. Each sector has it particular problem you must deal with, further into the game you must deal with a sector with airpower, to another sector having the power of Artillery overlooking the sector hampering your efforts. You must take out these problems slowly, and then finally the entire sector.

Personally Guerilla is a great fun game, and it is quite addictive as you keep coming back to complete a sector and destory an annoying base in order to bring down EDF control in the sector down to nil.

The Good:

- Addictive.
- Hours of gameplay, either through free-roam and causing chaos to the side missions and tasks.
- Many weapons at your disposal, even vehicles can be used to destroy buildings.
- Destruction of buildings.
- A simple storyline, even if it does not really have much originality.

The Bad:

- Its repetitive.
- You can get frustrated at the amount of times you die before you can complete a mission, or dying before you can destroy a building and having to come back to do it again.
- Enemies seem to always have the upper hand over you, and it takes a few attempts to find a solution in countering them.

Guerilla is an enjoyable game, that you can now find for cheap and its worth trying simply for the chance to destroy buildings and cause destruction.
