A pure challenge to prove your worth of a REAL shooter.

User Rating: 9 | R-Type III: The Third Lightning SNES
Graphics: Mostly what you'd expect from any other SNES shooter, clean and smooth graphics with some 3D effects put in. The graphics in this are really quite a treat to the eye, there are so many awesome effects, backgrounds, objects and so much more to see in this. Although they're not the best I've seen on the SNES, if I'd played this when it first came out, I'd have been totally blown away.

Sound/Music: Both are pretty good. The music can be either catchy or annoying in certain situations. As for the sounds, they're clean and quite neat. There's honestly nothing really more to say about them xD;

Difficulty: Hoo. Ok. Well I'll start out with this; you don't have a certain number of continues as most shooters give you. Why? Because this game may be so awesome and such, but when it comes to difficulty it takes the cake. This, by far, aside from the Turbografx-16 version of Dragon Spirit, is the most insanely hard shooter I've played in my life! You die so often and so much, but it's good you don't have a limited amount of contiues. This game is definatally not for a careless gamer. Most shooters are for the careless croud, but this one you gotta use your brain, there's some mazes in it-- try it, you'll see.

Gameplay: More than your stantard shooter, this has quite a bit in store. While being a horribly difficult game, the gameplay itself is really awesome. The story is great, the levels are tight, bosses are hard but fun to fight. There's definatally always something new every level, it's not repeatitive.

Controls: Very easy to learn controls, most of everything is where you'd hope it to be. Don't forget, hold down the fire button and you can charge your weapon. Just thought I'd point it out ;)

Overall: So it seems to be a mix of hot and cold, between the oh so awesome elements in this game but yet the horrid difficulty. I will say this: the gameplay makes up for the difficulty. You may be stuck somewhere for awhile, but keep trying and you'll get through it eventually, I promise you that for sure. If you have 800 Wii Points available, do yourself a favor and try this one out. :>
