Quantum of Solace. Double-0 Seven. Bond.......James Bond.

Whoooo boy !!! I just finished this game. I am writing this review with a very large smile stretched across my face. I needed a FPS-Action Epic "fix" and Quantum of Solace gave it to me. Read these paragraphs for a couple enlightening insights about this shockingly entertaining game.

The graphics are fine, nothing remarkable. Audio is better, nothing ground breaking. Controls are smooth, thanks to the COD4 engine. Voice is well done, but no Academy Awards. HOWEVER, the whole package is put together so seamlessly that the game is a total breeze to play through.

The story is a combination of the Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace movies. As the Gamespot review so incorrectly states...."the single player story is a little disjointed". Nothing could be further from the truth as this game does a remarkable job of telling the player who they are... and, what is happening to them and around them. By the end of the game, I was immersed so deeply into what was going on that I truly felt James Bond's English blood flowing through my veins. Not at first however. As a matter of fact, the first couple chapters of this game are rather plain. Then it got a little better. Then a little better. It didn't take long for me to notice that the gameplay was ramping up nicely....steadily....gaining momentum and becoming a much greater challenge. And it felt perfect. The last two levels of Quantum of Solace alone are worth paying the purchase price.

There are a few other nice things....the bonus unlocks are worthy and presented in a visually pleasing "Bond" sort of way. The menu screens are attractive and easy to manipulate. And a quick note about the enemy AI. These guys are smart and calculating. I have played as many action-shooter games as anyone, and I've seen AI that ranges from excellent to idiotic. This game has the smartest thinking, smoothest moving enemies that I have ever seen. They offer a wonderful challenge without being total 3rd Reich monsters. They are difficult to beat, yet beatable.

I could go on....but the longer the reviews, the less they are read. And I want you readers to go away from this wanting to give this game a try. You have to like FPS with a fair share of quick time button sequences and an even bigger share of stealth opportunities. If you enjoy that type of gameplay.....I just don't see you playing anything more fun that Quantum of Solace. Remember....the longer you play it, the better it gets. It is a short game, but quality has always bested quantity in my book. By the end, you'll be begging for a sequel. I know I am.
