A good game but it has a few let downs that if you overcome will be worth it

Well, this game has a mixture of good and bad, for instance, the combat's pretty good for console control's, and allows the proper feeling of being a fighter ace the customisation options allow quite a varied playstyle, and the story is pretty good, if a little confusing in defining the connection between a particular set of character's.

It also seems to be a ported japanese game, and some of the protestations of the "fighter pilots" do seem at odds with their jobs, nonetheless, the game does allow for some pretty impressively detailed combat scenes with lots going on and lets you feel pretty darn good for getting through stages, overall the story and gameplay side are actually very good and well worth getting through the games minor problems to play through, hence the relatively high score(as frankly there are many easier to play games, but being easier to play doesn't necessarily mean better if its story and standard gameplay suck).

It does however have some issues, such as the allied fighter AI's primary job seems to be to fly in front of you at the worst possible time and sap points from you for friendly fire, they seem to very rarely actually kill anything (allied warships are better) and their primary purpose seems to be as decoy's so the entire enemy force doesn't focus its self fully on its only real threat: you, however this is a mere annoyance and doesn't detract from the gameplay all to much though, you will get a comm msg from the offended party every time you shoot one accidental which can get on ones nerves eventually.

Secondly and if you play you will curse this a good few times, it seems to have a series of built in timers set to sequences, now instead of working in the time limits within the fiction, instead you'll get a 3 minute warning and then your mothership will say unable to continue combat for no apparent reason, with no explanation given and during difficult missions you will be very much wondering why the hell it would randomly stop, these issues are mostly simple design faults where no one thought of a way to turn them into a benefit as opposed to detriments, adding the time limits into the story could have increased the excitement level if done properly, and the other issues are all easily fixed or at least easy to make less annoying and seem to stem from a lack of decent testing, this is a good game and well worth playing and whilst it can generate frustration in area overall its worth completing and when you do there after you'll forget most of the issues and long for more combat.

Sequel with issues fixed please Square Enix, it could be a truly brilliant game if they do it right, Recommending this one nonetheless, as a great gameplay experience.
