that would go against alot of major philosophies and ideologies for valve as a company. i also believe they stated somewhere that they will never do platform specific exclusives, though i cannot confirm.
@MAD_AI they will never formally announce HL3...if it still exists.
if HL3 ever gets released, they will do what they did with Portal 2, and create an ARG, allowing players to "unlock" the game's launch by completing achievements.
that way, the valve community indirectly announces and launches the game, with a sense of accomplishment to boot.
in terms of the source2 engine, they have announced they are developing it.
one could imagine that Valve is gearing towards a Steam for Linux + Steambox + Source2 engine release, that would proverbially launch the next era of PC gaming, and HL3 would be their Flagship title.
but with valve's stance on how video games are becoming "user generated" and "driven by custom content," I question if they are just going to release the Source2 engine as a platform for the Hammer Legion, instead of showcasing its capabilities with a title of their own.
