It feels strange to me. I know the PS4 has been around for almost as long as the PS3 was when it became obsolete..... but the PS3 seemed to have a much, much bigger library of games. 3 Uncharteds, 3 Resistance, 3 Dead Space, 7 Assassin's Creeds, 5 Ratchet and Clanks, etc.

Maybe it's a testament to how much slower game development is now, or how late it was into its lifespan before the PS4 really got started. But I can't see any PS4 series getting as many releases on the console as all the PS3 series did.

Know what I mean?

4 years since Destiny released, about the time it takes to make a AAA game and now look! every developer wants to have a go at the MMO "inspired" console-style game. Division was alright, Fallout-does-Destiny looks okay, ish, and Anthem looks meh. They're just the flavour of the moment.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a shameless cash-grab, just like Origins, which has been deliberately designed to be boring, grindy and slow in an effort to microtransactionally sell "time saver" packs to the player. Collectively you need to kill, apparently, over 1000 animals to upgrade your gear. Upgrades which barely affect the gameplay in any way.

Also: it's a shame the series' story has wandered so far from its roots. There's a cursory modern day bit, but what about Juno, the First Civilization villain who was released into the present day at the end of AC3 in 2012 and whose story seems to have been completely abandoned? Erudito? the missing Animus Subjects, Gavin etc. where has it all gone? I assume we're never going to get answers to this stuff after so many years now.

Such a shame.

Man, I used to LOVE the Assassin's Creed multiplayer. It was so unique. So stealth-based. blending in with a crowd, sitting on a bench etc. trying to stay hidden and guess which of the many npcs was actually a player, your target. It was so tense and fun. Loved the complex score system too, which rewarded you for more elaborate, stealthy kills.

I was sorry to see it go.

@xscrapzx: I don't agree. I'm an avid assassin's creed fan: I platinumed assassin's creeds, 2, brotherhood, and revelations in about 35 hours each: that's story, all collectibles, side content and multiplayer. 3, 4 rogue and unity and syndicate took about 50-70 hours.

Origins: I stopped playing at 150 hours. I was just so bored with hunting the same animals over and over, performing the same dull fetch quests, and infiltrating the never ending and tiny enemy forts.

Origins, and now Odyssey, are very different games from the pre-origins Assassin's Creed titles. The series has pretty much changed genre now, and I don't enjoy it anymore. it's all busywork, no heart

@Dilandau88: YES! me exactly. I used to love Assassin's Creed when they were 30 hour adventure games set in cities.

Why does everything have to be a 300 hour RPG with an enormous open world and 2000 collectables and 150 forts to beat and damage numbers and skill trees and "rare," and "legendary" tiers of gear etc. It's exhausting, unfocused, and all just a vehicle for microtransactions

Looks like a reskinned Origins, to me
