Hi Guys.

Firstly I am not a regular visitor to the site any more but I do keep an eye out now and again.

I just came accross this though...

http://gamingbolt.com/

Yes they have made the header bigger, changed this and that but basically they have ripped off the gamespot site design.

It is a wordpress template but the person has basically used the current gamespot look and feel even down to the feature slider and has made some adjustments but basically copied the site. For me some of the content even seems to be similar at a glance in some places. I mean swapping the grey and orane of the main and sub menu around and making things a bit higher is not enough to hide the fact your ripping off a website design.

Being a web designer and developer while their code is different the background colours etc are identical or virtually the same so a print screen of this site I think was used.

In any case I think an email to these guys is needed to let them know it is a bit to much of a rip off.

Your side tracking a bit leading to personal preference in terms of what games are out on each machine, Not really the point of discussion here.
We can say "I think" in terms of what is being sold for use as a gaming machine which is fair enough but we can not be certain and someone needs to find out or at least do a survey to have a better idea, Like I said I thnk people would be supprised by the amount not used for gaming.

I am not saying a majority is either but the point is - We do not actually know and the question and doubt is there and PS3 fanboys and Sony alike who will no doubt will be bragging and shouting about improved sales and claiming a gaming platform boost will certanly happen in the coming months but my bet is that increase will be down to the fact blu-ray woon the hd war and more are being sold as a player not a gaming machine

Point is to put this to bed so to speak we need some data on the matter and I personally feel that many would be supprised at just how many are actually being sold as players and not a gaming machine.

In regards to the PS3

This is not a fan boy or PS3 vs 360 argument thread but a serious and very realistc question

Gamespot needs to contact a few stores and forumlate some form of survery, it is no good doing one on their site as it is a gaming site but someone somwhere needs to ask the questions.

PS3 is a nice machine and my personal opinion it has Been Sony making cock ups in various areas in regard to the machine (bold idiot (harsh but true tbh) has now gone YAY, he was killing it) from its hard to use and costly development to poor gaming performance as as a result to poor visions on what it should do and have (live service still wrong) etc

Just wanted to get that it is a great bit of kit and Sony are the ones who have messed with things to much to bodge its raiting with the other gaming machines this gen...

Anway...

We all know the PS3 has blu-ray and is really the cheapest and best option as a movie player becuase of the firmware update ability compared to other players that can not be updated and need replacing and many are being sold and used only as a movie player.
Out of the 21 people I personally know who own one 19 of them have not one single game for it with some using it as a media device through linux or standard interface or just playing hd movies.
Of all the 360 owners I know only one is using it as a media center

Now the question is sales have been building for the ps3 at the same growth rate just about as the blu-ray medium as it has through the last 5-8 months winning the format war.
And now that it has won I can see even more PS3's being sold and actually NOT being used as a gaming machine

When I have heard gamespot on their podcast and other sites and fanboys etc qouting ps3 sales I take that with a pinch of salt every time as I know that a lot of those sales will not be from a gaming standpoint.

I think gamespot should do a very serious and real investigation into ps3 sales and the games sold - I am sure you could formulate that what I believe to be the case that the number of machines sold compared to the games sold will not add up and I think you will see a surplus of games over a console and an everage users gaming collection etc.
Also if you got stores to ask what people are buying it for (and trying to aim for electronic stores moreover gaming stores)

Now I could be wrong of course and why it someone needs to do this but I really do believe if someone did a detailed study and survey the PS3 sales are not exactly what you think they would be in a gaming sense.

Because it is the best choice for a blu-ray player I think all sales figures should have this calculation or guestimate in place and the PS3's sold as a player not a gaming machine should be taken off when used by video game sites like gamespot becuase many people use it as a mesure of how well the company is doing on a gaming sense and becuase of what the machine is this is not the case and you can not consider reports on the PS3 sales as a reflection in terms of gaming.

Just got the news late about this and not read every single post but I get the idea. Lots of rumours around at the moment but a lot of common things you can pick up.

Been in the industry for a few years then moved to other stuff but reviews get paid for, sad affair but they do most is not money directed but things like advertising etc are key and at the end of the day = money.

As has been said deals are done to expect a good review if things have been windled between companies. I think Jeff gave an honest review but was fully aware (as I cant see him not being so) what he was supposed to do but wanted to be honest. The advertising was pulled for the future, money lost for cnet and with past issues they sacked him.

Gamespot has struggled a little recently for unknow reasons with some below standard stuff when you look at their normally high standard of reviews and show etc but was picking up and in part to the two guys we know are now gone etc.
It is always the sad case that an established thing gets bought out and when things are run by a bigger company things start to gobad when they interfear and start messing with the format, rules and staff.

I will not be at all supprised to see more of the Gamespot staff leave over this is jeff is not back in the team after talks etc and I can see cnet staff from other sites stepping in to fill the void and gamespot turning into sheet trash.

IF a load of the current gamespot team leave I do see them trying to set up there own site / company / show etc rather then going here there and everywhere and at least give it some thought - IF this happens I am hacking my full support into helping them and I am sure others would also

Interesting case of afairs though and I am sure the plot will thicken further but CNET are going to get some big stick from all sides

Why doesn't my token work? Everytime I get "invalid code", and I know I wrote it down right because I checked itaround 1 million times.

SnipeyMcSnipe

the code is a long one, not the code you get from gamespot. The code that you get from the gamespot form you use to enter into the call of duty 4 site beta to be accpeted into the beta program and then they may then send you the acivation code to get access to the beta.
