It seems like PS3-4 only owners are all stuck in the past.. Why wouldn't you not want to just tell your console to turn on, which by saying "xbox on" also turns on your TV simultaneously, instead of looking for your controller and remote control having to switch inputs every time.. The best part of the voice commands for me right now is that while I'm playing a video game, I can have the football game on TV picture-in-picture o the side and if something big happens all I have to say is "xbox fullscreen".. If you have never had experience with X1's UI and voice commands, then you are missing out.

with anynet+, pressing the ps button on the controller does the same thing in terms of turning on console/tv and switching inputs. since you need the controller anyway, i don't see how that is any less convienant. also, the ps camera isn't even needed to do the few voice commands the PS4 does have. you simply need a headset with a mic, if voice commands are your thing. i have the camera with no regrets, but i still think its dumb to pay $160 dollars for one when there's little support for it at the moment.

so you have to rebuy a ps3 controller to play ps3 games too now i'm hearing?? they couldnt announce this before launching so people could have at least kept one ds3 for themselves and save some money??

I stopped reading right there. Why would I not have a PS3 controller? The PS4 will not play my PS3 games, which means I will be keeping my PS3 when I buy the PS4. If you sold your PS3 to buy the PS4, then you also sold your PS3 games, which means you clearly had no intention of playing them again. So why would you rebuy those games or use the service?

that's a very shallow self centered way to look at the situation honestly. since it doesnt affect you personally, it's a non-issue?

it is a non-issue or at least not a very big one. Even if all 4.2 million PS4 sales came from previous PS3 owners (who somehow all decided to sell their consoles/controllers), that's still 96% of the PS3 userbase (who will also have access to Playstation Now) that will not have to purchase a DS3 controller.

a non-issue?? this is why its an issue. it doesnt matter, it still cost. we never had to pay for backwards compatibility....ever. now Sony has it that you have to ditch the games you do have and re-rent them. its a blatant **** over to their consumer. it doesnt matter if the rentals are a penny each. especially since the price of past playstation games are going to drop like a rock because of this, the physical copies. because Sony is going digital rental service. why would gamestop or anyone give you a good price for your games now. with Playstation Now n next gen here they're useless. so now ur going to lose money on trade-ins AND you have to pay to rent the games loved again, smh. the situation is fucked up.

seeing cows crow about this is odd...especially since the Xbox Live fee was suppose to be a big deal to them for so long. if that was then how is Sony making you pay for games twice not. especially when the second time you pay its only to rent.

i was referring to the need to buy a DS3 controller as a non-issue, which it isn't. as for PS Now, you are not paying for backwards compatibility. you are paying for a service. backwards compatibility allows you to play the games YOU own, not potentially an entire libraries of games. if you have no interest in playing games other than the ones you own, then don't get the service and continue to play your games. Sony isn't forcing you to pay for PS Now nor are they stopping you from exercising other methods for playing the games you own. and why are you worried about the trade in value of games, when your whole argument is about being able to play the games you own, smh.

hopefully the subscription will be included in the PS+ price, with a separate cost for those who don't have playstation hardware.

No there is nothing inherently bad about it, I agree with you on that. I just feel the timing is bad, the PS4 just barely released and one of its biggest announcements is that it's going to play older games, that's not what I would want to hear as a new PS4 owner, and I just feel that for now, Xbox One's direction is more appealing to me, they seem to be mostly focusing on improving the 360 experience and adding new things that were not there before.

what makes this one of the PS4's biggest announcements? this a Sony announcement regarding a service they've been working on, which in my opinion, will allow them to leverage their games into the phone/tablet market, in the event that one day consoles do actually become obsolete. to me, that's forward thinking. and that's why announcing this at CES seems like perfect timing to me. PS4 and PS3 owners will have this service, so it shouldn't be viewed as some sort of insight into where the PS4 is headed, specifically.

I'm cautiously, optimistic myself, but i don't view the service as a bad thing.

i find it funny how lems keep mentioning a price drop for the x1 as M$ can easily just drop the price anytime they want. The time to reduce the price was before launch a few weeks after E3. Lem are getting desperate, its quite sad..

^^ this. also, claiming a price drop as a secret weapon, less than two months after the console's release, is an admittance that it is currently overpriced.

i just discovered that turning my tv off automatically puts my ps4 into standby mode. usually i turn my ps4 off at night, but i can see myself going long stretches without ever turning it off completely, if start just turning off my tv instead. just curious as to how often people turn off their ps4 versus putting it in standby mode. are you mainly influenced by energy costs or it just better overall for the console (in terms of turning it off).
