@busterfriendly @stevegongos77_ I respectfully disagree. Let's face it: a video game is just mashing buttons, etc., and I need a compelling reason to keep mashing those buttons. The better the story/atmosphere, the more I can get lost in the game.
Why do in-house writers think they can actually write? Ego? Frustrated creative writing majors? I'm still waiting for someone to shell out the bucks to bring in real, proven writers. Can you imagine if the writers of "The Wire" or "Deadwood" were allowed to craft a story and dialogue? It's a shame the story of "Unity" is so bland. I mean, think of all the incredible true stories that occurred during the French Revolution. Ubisoft could have mined history for so many good ideas and twists to the plot. But, no, we once again get one-dimensional nonsense.
You know you're f*cked when you have to defend a game by saying future DLC might fix it. That's not the game. What you paid sixty bucks for is the game. This game is WEAK, and yet another one where story/immersion was given a back seat. I don't care how many levels they build or how many attachments you can stick on your gun, if they can't draw a gamer into the world and make them feel connected to events around them, the game will never work. And for those who say story isn't that important, perhaps there should be a game for you that consists solely of Team Deathmatch. No narrative, no characters-just running and gunning.
