@nabinator: Definitely not true. The initial Fallout 4 teaser wasn't a whole lot more grand than the one we just got. Its also extremely unlikely Bethesda would bother to tease a small spinoff game like Fallout Shelter, which itself was first mentioned as part of the Fallout 4 press event.

Well as others have already pointed out.... the biggest issue is that James Bond is a male character. There is no interpretation to that. JAMES Bond is a dude. You'd need to change the characters name otherwise it'd sound idiotic and then it would cease to be a James Bond film. What's the point?

Even as fairly liberal person, this BS about every character needs to be made female for the world to be equal needs to stop. Its not as though there are no female action heros or female-lead spy films. There are plenty of them. If you want to make another female lead spy film, go right ahead.... I'll be the first to watch it if its good. Hell, you can also add a female agent that bond works with to a Bond film.... that's fine too if it make sense for the plot. Why however does Bond, a long established character, have to become a woman? That makes no sense.

The fact that there are going to be reshoots shouldn't scare anyone.... but the fact that Disney wants to "lighten the mood" should make you freak out. Its not hard to imagine that at some point Lucas said "Hey, this Jar Jar character will lighten the mood a little bit!".

Not to mention that if I recall correctly, the stated point of these spin-off films was to branch out and do different things with the Star Wars license than what the core films have always done. Hell, last year Rouge One was described as Star Wars meets Black Hawk Down, which sounded great to me. I want to see something new and different... not the same old same old, and that's what these spinoff films were suppose to be. Reshooting a chunk of the movie because its somewhat different than the originals goes complete against that idea, and seriously lowers my interest in the film.

@CraZkid37: Its not really that hard to work into the story. Don't forget that Solo's back story before ANH was that he had dropped a shipment he was smuggling due to an encounter with Imperials. Its not hard to make up a short scene that ties that into the Imperials trying to track down the Rebels with the Death Star plans... especially since the opening battle of ANH takes place above Tatooine, which is where Luke and Kenobi run into Han.

If this is true (I'll wait for a confirmation from Valve), than the motivation seems clear.... Valve wants to ruffle EA's feathers, plain and simple. Lets not forget that a couple years back EA pulled all their games from Steam, and launched their own digital distribution system (Origin) to compete directly with Valve in that space. This is just a way for Valve to cause some trouble at EAs expense.

What will happen to the game? Who knows. Lucas Films did have a history of leaving fan made Star Wars content alone, and Disney has so far continued that tradition. EA isn't going to take this lying down though. Granted, EA can't challenge the project on their own since they don't actually own Star Wars and thus lack standing to challenge a copyright violation..... meaning Disney would need to be the ones to shut it down, and there is at least a chance Disney might not want to go down that road.

Very good article, and it pretty much sums up my big problem with the gameing industry these days.

I use to buy about 30 games a year not that long ago. Now adays? Its a lot if I buy 6-8 a year. All the big name titles are pretty much the same game with a slightly different story... and not only that, they are linear cinematic filled disasters. Not only is it annoying when some huge action scene is happening and you can't play it because its a video... but its also getting annoying that the only way most developers try to make games fun is with bigger, better, badder action scenes. Action scenes have their place, but they are not the be all end all of gaming, and theres nothing worse then being forced to watch one in a cinematic.

@WolfBladeKK

Not true at all. GTA:San Andreas was announced in March of 2004 with an October 22nd release date, and we really didn't get much info till E3 that year. So its not at all impossible to think GTAV will come out in October.

In fact, GTAV was actually announced last year, so if it comes out in October it will have been known for nearly a full year. Thats plenty of time, and pre-orders are already taking place. A release date is really just a formality.

Just because a handful of the big names don't attend E3 anymore doesn't mean its not still a hugely important event. For all the developers that can create their own headlines with a simple game announcement, there are dozens of studios that can't and really need E3. The game industry isn't just about the few big names out there after all, and the majority of games people play don't come from the big studios.

Did you really just compare the crappy ending of a video game to The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie? Wow.

@BloodMist - Well said. There was and likely never will be anything quite like Galaxies back then. I played the beta for The Old Republic, and its not even close to the same. I don't even mean in terms of gameplay since it wasn't designed to have the same sandbox style. ToR just does not capture the feel of the Star Wars universe like Galaxies did.... not even close in fact. It just feels like playing WoW with lightsabers and a much ebtter story. Thats not to take much away from ToR. Its a solid game, and the story telling is great... but its no Galaxies.
