I used to play on normal and then beat the game a few days later, like damn.... I shoulda put it on hard. Now, I know these games are made for casual gamers so I go straight for the highest difficulty. I need to experience the full force of the AI.

I start every game on the hardest difficulty just because I feel I'll get the most out of the game. My train of thought at the time of choosing difficulty is something like "Hopefully this will last longer than the last game."

BTW Carmack next gen engines are making it EASIER for devs to create what they want. Things are basically on autopilot... Making games for the next gen will be like flying commercial jets.... It's realllllyyy hard... if you dont know what you're doing but once you have a clue.... autopilot..... lighting, shadowing it's all dynamically generated by the engines. The fact that you can test your work in-game straight from the editor and back to the editor in a split of a second is a feat of more power all on its own. Algorythm setups for gameplay and story telling is a synch in the new unreal engine 4. It's not just about graphical power, it's about ease of use. Sony understands this as well and they scratched the cell processor due to it's complexity to develop for. So Carmack.... please..... get back to making DOOM HD*.. lol friggin contradictor...

Anyone that doesn't want more power will most likely have the option to stay with their current console. I'm pretty sure both systems will support backwards compat. and the newer games will most likely be released on ps3 and xbox360 for years after the newer consoles hit the market. So no need to complain or call people names who DO want more power. Nobody is an idiot for wanting what they want if what they want doesn't take away from or hurt anyone else.

@swyg

True, the challenge needs to be fun, not repetitively dying and trying again. At least not for FPS games. The original Mario was a die and try again kinda game so it's not entirely bad. Just in fps games.

Why do you think more children nowadays quit out of frustration and anger? I've been a gamer for over 20 yrs and I've noticed this getting worse and worse. I believe it arose due to the level of competition amongst those enjoying online play. Someone is always better than you and you have to face it everytime you play. This is, I beleive a BIG DEAL in our children's upbringing and should have a closer look. I also believe it contributes to the rise in bullying amongst children. In online competitive play there is always a winner and always a loser... someone has to be the loser, and I think some kids at certain ages aren't prepared for that failure. It's almost like kids are getting a taste for the real world, and what real world competition is. Unfortunately it IS a dog eat dog world, but kids aren't ready to deal with it. Online competitive multiplayer is a taste and you see how kids who aren't prepared for the real world react. The temperment to not winning (or getting their way) becomes a habit at early ages and WILL affect their adult life.

Oh man, I hope the increase in difficulty isn't just more enemy opponents with better aiming that at times will feel like you're playing against an AI controlled aimbot. Because that is NOT fun. I hope they find ways to make games more challenging without "killing" the player. If my punishment is death but I have unlimited lives it'll make no sense. Players will just bulldoze their way through it not caring about the 100 deaths it took to not get caught by an aimbot AI. Big deal. Give us a challenge that matters, not a trial and error shooter.

Not even a strike of interest in the game... just wanted to see how everyone who thought this game was going to be good react to the truth of the review. Don't get me wrong I like a good dirty joke, I like skimpy dressed girls, and I enjoy slaying zombies, BUT FOR GAMING SAKE STOP BEATING THESE DEAD HORSES TO SELL YOUR CRAPPY VIDEO GAMES. Get a clue
