Those games are in a category of their own considering those genres are non existent now a days. Nintendo Fanboys are the most defendant.

Think of Alpha 2 as being a major refinement of Alpha 1. You're better off not playing 1.

There's an Alpha collection out there that would let you try all of them for cheap, since Alpha 3 is quite good as well (not as well-balanced, but it's got a large roster).
