I grew up on a lot of old school funk and soul (earthwindandfire, tower of power, rick james, prince, etc, blahblahblah) still probably my favorite time era of music. Got into rap pretty young, uncle introduced me to Pac, Dj quik, E40(when he was good imo) scareface, richie rich, digital underground busta and jayz. More west coast cuz heck thats where im from. Then around junior high for like one year i started to listen to alt. rock...and other rock such as rhcp, deftones, sublime........moving on. Got into more mainstream R&B and rap in highschool just for a bit, (50 cent, nelly, em, dre)
Then lost touch of that music after lil jon came in the scene and stopped listen to local radio. Believe me, my radio station here is garbage and has a way to play out a song in less than a week. i backtracked in the music and looked for music i rarely heard but liked. these were artists like mos def, common. on my own independent searchings got me listening to artists like blackalicious, lyrics born, brother ali, wutang, living legends, roots, little brother, j live (so many to name)and even got into some jazz . and i hated everything else. " backpacker". hate mainstream and hyphy.
More recently since beco ming a deejay i realize music is what it is. im not doggin it no more or telling people to stop listening to that mess, because whether i hate it or not its some form of music that somebody likes and if i don't like it, im just glad it makes the music i like sound so much better to my ears.
