If the "amusement" is smart and subtle, I can be easily amused. Don't know if that makes me dumb..
I guess it also depends on what your definition of dumb really is. For instance, a genius might consider a fairly intelligent person a considerable moron.
None of these things can be figured out intuitively, they have to be learned at some point. By omitting plain information and substitute it with lingo, you take away someones ability to understand things properly and autonomously. This, in turn, will leave people stuck and confused. The total opposite of what an information medium should aspire to, I'd think.
I don't think anyone likes change. Doesn't matter how gamespot did the layout, people would still be complaining. People will get used to it.

I don't mind change as long as it is an actual improvement over the old. Here, however, they made it more difficult and confusing to navigate. They didn't improve anything, they did a step backward. It's like switching from a Bugatti Veyron to a DAF 66. Who in the right mind would enjoy that??
I'm curious whether they hired people from Microsoft to mess up their GUI..
If they changed it back every time someone complained they didn't like it, we'd still be looking at the GameSpot from 10 years ago. Give it time and I'm sure you'll start liking it.

The same applies for alcohol and drugs. Doesn't mean it's good, or better, though.
OT: Not a fan of this new layout. It's obscure and confusing and not even better or more modern looking. It's just "different" in a bad way.
It's terrible!! The original design was near pefect. Everything was easy to find. What idiot came up with the stupid idea to change it?? I'm completely lost in this new (fancy looking) design.
