Yeah if it was an MMO thatd be pretty sweet. Imagine having thousands of people in the city at one time, you can make massive gangs and have gang wars. Other people can play as the cops, the feds and the FBI. And there could even be a full fledged prison where you get sent if you get caught, with other people who got caught, and theres a prison economy and ways to escape and all of that. Thatd be pretty awesome. And why are some people complaining about "gangsta" bs? Its just a videogame representation of gangs in the west, just like the mafia out in the east.

Yeah, all it did was clean up some textures, and improve the draw distances a bit. It also helped load times alot, so its all good.

Hmm I think I'll find Butters and get him to freeze me for 14 hours. Seriously though, its a good time to go for a walk, look at the stars, smell the fresh air, and talk to people..... In Oblivion.

too good to be true... Not sure how coop wouldve worked for this game but it wouldve been cool to try. In other news, I dont know if you guys have heard this but in a recent 1up.com podcast (1up yours) they mention that bioware is making an mmo that will actually be... KOTOR 3. So that should be good.

The Media Marketplace seems like a good idea in theory; Allow users to download television shows and movies, store them on the harddrive and watch them using the console, in HD. The problem occurs when they charge for something that we are used to getting for free, namely televison. If you pay attention to trends in digital culture then you know about stuff like youtube, and you also know that the major broadcasting companies are beginning to hone in on the untapped potential of digital distribution. On nbc.com you can watch full episodes of a variety of different shows streaming and on demand with very limited commercial interruption. You can go watch the whole season of Heroes right now (at least up until the current episode) for free. Why would they offer this service with no charge? Couldnt it have a negative affect and their actual broadcasts by giving people alternatives to tuning in, and therefore costing them ad revanue? The answer is no, because the people who will use this service are people who wouldnt be tuning in to begin with, and any revenue they make from advertising on the site is all gravy. It costs them very little to do, but can yield large amounts of previously untapped revenue.

Marketplace could take this approach, sell a couple of ads per program and let users download the shows for free, but instead they are making us pay for something that will expire after a certain amount of time. As broadcast companies focus their recources to digital distribution, using the free to watch with limited commercials marketing model there will be no need, and no demand for a service that charges you to download the same shows. I believe that eventually this digital distribution will make things like TiVo obsolete, because there will be no need to have a DVR when you can simply point, click, and stream, for free. I wonder how many people here actually pay to download stuff off of the media marketplace, and if these shows, movies etc. became more widely available (which is sure to happen over the next couple of years) online and on demand for free would they even consider using Microsofts service?

Sorry for the pun but Mass Effect isnt going to have the same mass appeal as Gears. It is probably my most anticipated game right now, but I doubt it will be a mainstream hit the way Gears is. It will sell very well, but it will sell to the hardcore crowd which will limit it from the success Gears gained through hype, and wow factor (I love Gears by the way and think it deserves all of its success).

[QUOTE="raymond187"]For those of you who play PC games and have played through Halo's 1 and 2 as well as both Half Life games, I believe you'll agree with me when I say that the single player experiences in the Half Life are better than what has been served up by the Halo franchise thus far. Dont get me wrong, I love Halo, and am very much looking foward to Halo 3, but I find it interesting that a superior package like orange box gets nowhere near the amount of attention that Halo 3 does. Especially when you consider that orange box comes with essentially 3.75 complete gaming experiences; that is all of Half Life 2 with enhances graphics to match todays version of the Source engine, Half Life 2 episodes 1 and 2 which are basically 2 thirds of Half Life 3, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. If you havent played Half Life 2 yet prepare to be completely immersed and blown away by the experience. I have no doubt that Halo 3 will be amazing, but still I wonder, with the superior gameplay and level design Valve is throwing out there, why isnt there as much buzz surrounding orange box? rdo
because gabe is a moron. he over promises and under delivers. half life2 came out when halo2 did, and it is going to show it's age severly when compared to halo3. go back and play goldeneye again. as great as it was for the time you'll wonder "is this really the same game? i remember it being much better than this."

I dont think the game will show any age. The source engine is made to evolve and all of the new technology they are using in episode 2 will be put in retroactively to Half Life 2 and episode 1 to keep them fresh. Theres a GDC interview where Lombardi says this floating around somewhere but I cant seem to find it right now. Halo 3 will probably be a quantum leap foward compared to Halo 2 in the graphics, AI, and physics department, and I would expect to be significantly better than orange box graphically as well, but Half Life should hold its own in all other areas due to the flexibility of the source engine, and the superior level design Valve has already shown especially when compared to the somewhat repepative design choices used by bungie in the past.

As far as multiplayer goes there really isnt any sense in comparing Halo 2 to CS: Source, because CS has evolved so far beyond anything Halo 2 has shown us that it really isnt an even comparison. That being said CS has had so much time to develop that it only makes sense that as of now it is a far deeper, more skilled base game than Halo, and perhaps whatever they do in Halo 3 will be comparable.
