[QUOTE="pyramus"]

Hi guys,

So I have decided to invest in an SSD for the first time. I have two 1TB Samsung drives in my pc at the moment. Windows has gotten quite slow to boot up and shut down as my drive is near capacity. So I want to get an SSD (prob a Crucial M4 128GB) for Windows/photoshop and a game or two and use my two HDD's for storing movies etc.

So I have a few questions:

  1. Is there much involved in installing an SSD?
  2. They are quite slim so I am worried about where it will rest inside the case?
  3. Should I detach the current windows drive before installing it on the SSD?
  4. What changes to I make to the bios? (boot order I presume)
  5. Once Windows is installed, how do I remove it from the HDD but keep my files/folders

Any other advice would be great! :)Thanks in advance.

When installing a new OS, only connect the SSD and your DVD/BR drive(s) and simply install. Most mobo's BIOS don't need no fiddling around. Older ones, like the 945/965 chipsets (socket 775) would need an extra setting in the BIOS, but not later boards...

Only thing you need to do is change the boot-rder inthe BIOS, to let the PC start from a DVD/BR drive in order to be able to install the OS.

When done, re-connect all the hard drives, set the boot order in the BIOS to the SSD, copy your stuff from the original hard drive to the SSD and reformat the "old" drive.

Thanks buddy! I guess I will have to re-install any games or programs installed on the original HDD?

I've been eying the K90 for some time now. I really want it but I'm a little hesitant about how easy it is to mistype.Acemaster27

I never heard this before, is this a big issue?

i tried out a k60, which is basically the same board, and didn't really care for it. i thought maybe mechanical just wasn't for me but a while back i picked up a quickfire rapid red and i'm loving it... had to switch out those ugly stock key caps though. i will never use a non mechanical board again. in fact, when my mom came to visit early this month i pulled out my old keyboard because the key caps i have on this don't have print on them and she couldn't use it, and the thing just feels like trash to me now... i used to love that keyboard, it wasn't a cheapo one either, cost over 100 dollars about 2-3 years ago. couldn't really pinpoint what about the k60 wasn't doing it for me though.MuD3

Whay is the key (pardon the pun) difference you have felt since switching to a mechanical keyboard? How is the typing?

i would say just go with the k60, because you dont need backlit keys anyway and you save a nice amount. i could personally recommend the coolermaster quickfire rapid. i love this keyboard, its small yet heavy(you could use this thing as a melee weapon) great keys and cherry blues for a great tactile feel. no 10-key or audio/usb jacks but cheap ($60), just as another option

Thanks! I will look into it! I am looking at lots of keyboards now! :P

I have it's little brother, the k60. It's the same, but without backlit keys and the macro buttons, while have neat red, rubberized keys that come as spares for wasd, and 123456, keys. The feel is great, and the aluminum really looks great too. You can take out the keys and really deep clean it as well, while a can of air can blow out any dust from the keys with ease. I'm going to be gettings the k90 for myself or my wife, depending on which I like more. The rubber keys are great for fps/any game that uses wasd, but I like the idea of backlighting. If you want the k90, go for it. But perhaps the k60 would be better? It is cheaper, and the rubber keys are great. However, it doesn't have a full wrist rest (It comes with an uncomfortable partial wristrest for your left hand), backlighting, or macros. Both of them are great quality and have great features. The volume wheel on both is fantastic for controlling sounds.demi0227_basic

Hey thanks for your input. I didn't realise the keys were rubberised. That sounds great. How is it for typing on? I was looking at the K60 too but I didn't like the left wrist rest. It looks awkward! I presume it is detachable?

Hi all,

Anybody have this keyboard? I am thinking of changing my keyboard to the Corsair Vengeance K90. It has a really nice finish and sense of quality to it. It has raised keys for ease of cleaning with aluminium underneath. The major keys are mechanical but the less used ones are not. This isn't a huge issue for me but it would have been nice to have full mechanical keys. Its a little pricey but I like the quality finish of it and it would compliment my case and monitors and look nice on my desk! :P

I like the way the macro keys are lowered compared to the other keys. I have macro keys on my current keyboard but I keep pressing them instead of ESC and CTRL etc.

It has some good reviews

The positives:

  • Stylish
  • Quality finish
  • Backlit
  • Programmable keys
  • Mechanical keys
  • Handy volume control

The downsides:

  • A bit pricey
  • Not all keys are mechanical (not a biggy)

Here is a detailed review I found on YouTube.
(I only watch the first 10mins)

So any thoughts? I am a casual gamer but I do like to have quality hardware.
