I forgot to mention that Alien also includes plenty of Body Horror which is a subcategory of...Horror. In addition to the Lovecraftian elements, I don't know how anyone could possibly argue that Alien is not a horror movie.
@HarlemVIP: Fair enough. Although, if your view of horror movies is composed of only teen slasher pics, then you're not watching the right movies. You should check out:
Let the Right One In It Follows The Babadook The Witch
Pretty much nothing scares me anymore, so what I tend to look for is artistic atmosphere, creativity, and whether or not the film lingers in my mind afterwards. If you haven't seen any of those, I hope you enjoy! :)
@spottedfeather: Except it is. The filmmakers themselves - Ridley, O'Bannon, Carroll, Giler, Hill...have all come out and said that Alien was a hybrid of all those things. It's sci-fi/horror/slasher/monster movies all wrapped up in a nice Lovecraftian bow. It's part of what makes it so unique and special.
@StonerDemon: That was my initial reaction after my first playthrough. But after my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th playthroughs, I wanted more. The game wasn't long enough. I need more.
@juxax: I had no problems with the map. I played on the hardest difficulty, and have platinumed the game. Isolation is an excellent horror game. One of, if not, the best. You should try playing for more than a few hours on something higher than normal difficulty.
